Hi all,
Currently deciding upon accommodation for an upcoming stay in Melbourne, typically we stay at HSW and have been impressed with the service etc, however I am wondering whether anyone has stayed at the Grand Hyatt and could give me their thoughts on how the two compare.
Am considering the Hyatt due to the location mainly.

Cheers.

IMHO, the Grand Hyatt lounge is much nicer and has a better food spread than the Hilton South Wharf.

Bonjour,

I came across your question on the internet, and became quite interested, being the Hotel Manager of the Sofitel Melbourne on Collins. We have a wonderful Club in “Club Sofitel”.

Unfortunately we are unable attach a link to our website on this post, for more information on our "Club Sofitel" facilities please visit the Sofitel Melbourne on Collins website.

I hope that one day you decide to venture a block up the road to see us. Please let me know if I can assist you in anyway. Safe travels and enjoy Melbourne wherever you rest your head.

Kind regards,

Jeremy Healy

Out of HSW and Grand Hyatt, I would always opt for Grand Hyatt. The lounge is very relaxing, great views, evening drinks and canapes better than HSW. The one catch is the Grand Hyatt is consistently more expensive than HSW, so budget is sometimes a consideration.
As the thread had a post from the Sofitel I will add that Club Sofitel is my favorite lounge, however I have a preference for the rooms at Grand Hyatt over the Sofitel, so I'm always torn as to which hotel to choose. I usually let price decide, and recently that has meant I have stayed at the Sofitel, whilst I really like Grand Hyatt I believe it is over priced.

Stayed at both pretty extensively last year. HSW lounge is huge and has an outdoor terrace which is a nice addition - but in terms of decor, view and F&B - hard to beat GH.

Then again, I was lucky enough to be workIng for a client who had exceptional rates at both HSW and Park Hyatt. Park Hyatt - now THAT is a lounge. Not quite the view of HSW/GH, but service and F&B that can't be matched.

All good options, but in order I'd say:

Lounge: PH, GH, HSW
Rooms: PH, HSW, GH (including Diamond upgrade frequency into the equation - GH never gave anything more than a standard room on a high floor).

Cheers
Febs.

Never got a chance to try the lounge at the Sofitel, but as they've posted I would like to add my thoguths that it is a rather decent hotel with a good location. It's not quite a scentral as the Hyatt but is closer to the park and museums etc. Pity about Accor Club or Le Club. Do they actually award points yet, or do they still require you to fax your firstborn's birth certificate with DNA sample for proof of stay?
