I just booked and paid for a return ticket from Sydney to Perth on Qantas.com, and noticed they have recently made some enhancements.

During the booking process, they now displays how many points I will earn for my Gold membership.

They also finally recognise my Frequent Flyer number and it adds my name, phone and email details automatically. What a good improvement, I don't have to manually add all my details each time. Hopefully Virgin will follow QF's lead on this.

I can't remember if insurance was previously offered, but I was able to add cancellation insurance to the cost of my ticket.

Does anyone know when these changes were made?

Good work QF!!!

I thought it stupid that you entered in your QFF No. and then entered in your name etc manually. It should always have been automatically returned!

I was always paranoid that I would mis-type something and it would error out and I would get zero points.

Hmmmm.......... maybe I drink too much coffee and should relax more ........

I think DJ has done the automatic details entry with Velocity (once youre logged in, of course) for some time. They've also offered 'ticket and baggage' insurance mid-booking for quite a while. In these areas it may be a case of QF following DJs lead ;).

I don't believe that DJ have an in-booking points calculator though. That would be a very handy addition to the booking process

And it would be fairly easy to implement, simply multiply fare by 5, 6 or 7 as appropriate (having said that it is fairly easy to work out even without an in process online points calculation, just need to have a calculator handy, as DJ points aren't dependent on distance).

That's true, but a little bit of extra functionality never hurt anyone :)

Re the insurance..DJ do offer the insurance in the booking process but unlike Qantas.com& Jetstar,DJ default to taking insurance...I wonder how many have been conned by that $9 charge.
Also new to the Qantas site are some handy sort options on the left hand side under refine search allows you to search for weekend travel only and also shorten displays by time of day as well.
well done

Qantas Asia website lets me input the AA FF number but then is unable to accept it - probably because it contains letters.....

Guess I'll have to try and call the QF 13 number and get it added......

Unhappily waiting while I wander

Qantas' regular Australian web site allowed me to enter my AA number to a booking earlier this week without any problems.

I get that sometimes. You can get around it by completing your booking without the FF number entered, then enter it via 'manage your booking.'

StuartFaz.. you are indeed correct - they have offered the fill-in details from inception. And yes i have also been duped the $9 charge when in a hurry!

The $9.00 insurance has now been automatically added and you have to manually remove it. In the past you had to ask whether you wanted it but now it just takes your $9.00 if you forget to unclick it.

True but some people would not even need a calculator. ;)
