Hi Everyone,

I'm a long time lurker, first time poster.

I have been travelling on and off for work (usually domestic y) for about 8 years and yet I only joined QFF early last year. I can't believe I wasted all that time without getting any points. Early last year I applyed for the woolies EDR CC and have found it to be a great earner, getting me about 100k - 120k a year.

I was lucky enough to fly from Perth to Washington early this year and was booked in premium ecconomy. I had anough points to upgrade the entire journey to J. Since then I have had the bug and have become one of those people that constantly look for ways to sqeeze every last QFF point out of my spending.

I am at a bit of a decision point now though. Whether or not I should keep my EDR or upgrade to NAB platinum. Apart from the 35k QFF points on joining I like the idea of getting 1.5 points per $ on the AMEX. My only hesitation is I know that it isn't accepted everywhere. I am in the process of building a house so am a bit tight on the budget so NAB will likely only allow us to have one CC. I would be interested in hearing what other AFF members have to say on the topic as to whether this would be a worthwhile change or not.

Other than that I look forward to trading travel stories, and sharing tips and tricks on getting the most points possible.

Hi Dr0pB3ar,

Welcome to AFF. :D

Welcome to the forum,

This is the right place to squeeze the most value out of your QFF points.

Welcome aboard Dr0pB3ar, you'll realise you're amongst friends here and we share the passion. I'm currently in BKK awaiting my flight back to Australia and am looking forward to it and the resultant points. :D

Don't be a stranger and if possible come and join us at a get together somewhere.

Happy flying.

Thanks for the welcome messages!

Can't wait for the next 100/50 point per select item to come into my inbox for EDR. After reading some of the other users exploits (or as I prefer... triumphs) I sifted back through all of my EDR emails from the last year and was disappointed to see that I have never received such an email. But when I do I will be ready to pounce.

Look forward to learning as much as I can and getting to know you all along the way. It's great to see how inviting all of the old users are. So many different online communities around the place are so negative towards outsiders that it's often hard to come in with zero knowlege. I am happy to say that, this is not the case at AFF. So thanks heaps,

Cheers,

Definitely keep Woolies EDR card, cheapest 1:1 points earner (no points capping) and combine with NAB PLat Amex. This is the combo I use for approx $700k / year spend - Welcome to AFF and prepare to learn  CM

Welcome to AFF Dr0pB3ar,

If you can manage to keep both cards, then try to do so. Otherwise, the NAB Amex does come with a Visa so you still have some earn (.66/$) if a vendor doesn't take Amex.

I am going to ask if I can keep both. It's just difficult at the moment because I am paying rent and part of a mortgage while my house gets built. I can understand why the lenders aren't thrilled about allowing me to have two credit cards. The sign on bonus of 35k is probably the kicker for me at this stage. I will ask as well if they will allow me to keep the EDR on the lowest possible credit limit just for those occasions when I can't use the amex. I don't need much of a credit limit because It's always paid off every 2-4 weeks.

Thanks for the advice

At the end of the day it can't hurt to ask. I will let you know how I get on.

Thanks again

And welcome from me as well. I've got some great tips in a very short while here.
BTW, compared to other forums I inhabit, this one has the highest lurker/member ratio I've seen. Any ideas why?

I'm not sure why this is the case. I would understand if everyone here was rude to newcomers like alot of other forums getting around but everyone here seems so friendly, and happy to help... It's a bit odd that more people don't want a piece of the acction.

Some of the language is rather arcane, which might turn people off, but the abbreviation sticky was helpful.

I reckon that the unique language is half the fun. I literally have to keep the definitions thread open in another tab so that I can keep cross checking... learning slowly though

Cheers,
When I was younger I could hold my breath under water going down the 22ft end of a swimming pool and coming back up. I would not hold my breath waiting for these offers to re-appear but stranger things have happened.

Who do you need to ask?

I am a pretty avid freediver and spear fisherman so can hold my breath for a while... hopefully the wait isn't too long

Who do you need to ask?

NAB. it's who our home loan is through now. When I was in the office the other day getting some paper work for the loan organised I asked them if I had a decent enough credit rating (I have two kids, my wife is studying, and am now servicing a building mortgage while paying rent while the house is getting built) to get the platinum qantas cards. The lady tapped on the computer for a few seconds and said that we did but would probably have to get rid of the EDR CC as one of the conditions.

I am assuming it's because while we are paying rent at the current place they don't consider us having enough disposable income to service the two credit accounts if they were to be maxxed out.

As far as i am aware I don't think I have ever payed interest on any of my credit cards... I just use them for the points and pay them off before the days run out. But I guess the have to treat you as if you are going to max out the whole thing and service the interest just in case.

So, I think I will change to the NAB platinum anyway and if they make me drop the EDR I will just have to wait until next year when I have a better income and no rent to pay (can't wait) and re-apply for it (or maybe the citibusiness gold)

Does that make sense?
