Greetings,
I am a first year student in Canberra, having moved up from Melbourne to study. I look forward to the advice on flying and hopefully contributing my bit :)

Welcome!

What are you studying? And (more importantly) where do you want to travel?

Thank you guys,
Will, I am studying Commerce/Economics, and my main route is Melbourne-Canberra (Between family and uni) however I am also an occasional leisure traveller to Queensland - mainly far north

Fabulous. FNQ is probably my favourite holiday destination in Australia, too!

Big question - do you prefer the 737s CBR-MEL - quieter and faster - or do you prefer the Qantaslink Dash-8s with free wine? :):)

I have not been on the Dash-8's yet, but not being a large wine drinker I am quite happy on the 737's. However the last 737 I was on was unsually loud - but perhaps it was because I was seated right behind the engine of an old plane.

Welcome TS

Slightly off topic - but curious how long the flight between CBR and MEL is on a dash8.

Only QF out of HVB is on the Dash8 - although starting today we start getting the Dash8 400's :) - down to BNE which is about a 30 min flight, just enough time for a drink, wouldn't enjoy a flight much longer than that...

However, they are much MUCH better than the old sunset planes we had prior, Photos: Short 360 Aircraft Pictures | Airliners.net

I used to regularly fly in SH6 between BNE and MCY - it was a 20 minute trip.

One evening a DH3 was subbed and the flight took 10 minutes.

The QF DH4's have a useful cruising speed of ~460KPH, the DH4's do it at 600KPH.

So Trash Thursday at Academy is more your thing then?

I'm sorry i dont follow...
I'm not a heavy drinker

There is/was an ad on FM104.7 about cheap drinks at Academy nightclub on thursday nights which they called trash thursday. Typically these are frequented by students because of said cheap drinks.
