Greetings fellow AFFers from a shy lurker of many years. I have been greatly entertained and educated in the ways of maximising the benefits of flying by the generous and lively members of this group. Before finding the forum, I had been SG with Qantas for several years, never quite making WP, and indeed, so naive at first that I did not realise there was any benefit to trying! Within my first year lurking in the shadows, I found out about the benefits of Platinum, realised the possibilities of maximising SCs and achieved WP. Again, the savvy members of AFF made me realise the pluses of the DJ status match, to which I would otherwise have been oblivious. I managed to keep my DJ WP for a second year through BIS and a DSC offer, though I am not sure I can do this for another year (reduction in work travel). Of the two, I would strive to keep my Qantas WP status, having finally had the delightful experience of a few hours in the Sydney F Lounge.

In relation to my hoped for retention of Qantas WP, I received the Double SC offer for Oz/NZ flights between 18 Oct and 31 Dec. I already had several flights booked in the period, several of which I cancelled (now held as vouchers) and rebooked to take advantage of the DSC. As I understand it, I cannot redeem these vouchers for the DSC promotion as they were originally booked prior to the 18 Oct date. However, I wondered if using points to make a domestic booking in the period (probably just in Y, cannot afford J) would get me the DSCs? I have read as many of the threads as I can (and the sticky on Status Runs) and it looks like they would be eligible, but I would very much appreciate any advice from the veterans on this before I book.

As a bit of brief personal bio (not quite DYKWIA :) ) I have been travelling for work for the past 20 years, although I am no spring chicken, and wish I had been able to do more flying when I was more physically able - I now use a walking frame and wheelchair, and could probably have made 50 posts on the sole topic of how disabled travellers are treated. I have had both good and appalling experiences in Oz and OS, and I think there is a long way yet to go in this field in Oz. If I can ever help any other travellers with questions on accessibility I would be delighted to offer my advice, FWIW.

Now I am out of the closet, I look forward to participating more actively in discussions in future, and thank you all for your past and no doubt future assistance.

Welcome Rhiannon! Would be great to hear some posts from your past experiences dealing with the wheelchair etc...
Happy flying!

I too would be interested to hear some of your experiences

Just to answer your question - if you book an any seat award (ASA) rather than a classic award you will get the DSC.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome and the advice (thank you simongr, I will look into the ASAs). If people are interested, I might post sometime on my experiences travelling with a disability, not sure in which part of the forum as it covers several airlines, but I will get something organised soon. Looking forward to being a bit more active here, and giving back something, as I have got so much out of the advice and opinions of others over the past few years.

As a dual QF and DJ WP you have a lot of advice to offer. I look forward to your posts.
