Hi All,

I’m a Spaniard relatively new to MEL; I have relocated here permanently after a temporary relocation turned permanent.
Melbourne is one of the best cities to live in, so I’m very happy to be here, sadly it seems the weather played a bait and switch with me.

I travel regularly to back home to visit my family and spend a month there travelling around Europe with my sister.

My job also takes me around Asia, and allow me to keep any FF points accrued by those trips and I’m given a lot of freedom to choose the airline and flight I want, which was one of the main reasons I accepted this job!

I’m very interesting of how to get the most out of the Qantas FF program, or if there is a FF program that is better to use in order to maximize the privileges when travelling for work and personal reasons.
It is also worth noting I have to use Iberia to travel within Spain, so being a part of the One World alliance is great.

I have read in this site that many people use AA or other FF programs, I can’t say I fully understand the advantages of using those instead of QFF, and I would like to understand more and use the program that works best for me.

Kind regards and pleased to be a part of the community.

Hola Claudius :) Welcome.

Qantas and QFF is undergoing some changes at the moment, no doubt as a reaction to the rather ordinary state of the airline's finances. Many of us love the old girl, but have been disappointed of late, hence looking to other pastures, other within OneWorld and outside it. May be sort of when a friend lets you down - you feel and react to it more than perhaps the actual thing deserves.

Thank you so much everyone for the warm welcome!
I would like to know more about these regular MEL gatherings, I looked up the events section but all I could find is a past event involving dumplings which I would have loved to partake on but sadly is in the past.

if you can point me in the right directions and they are at a time I'm in MEL count me in!

I also love QF, after years of flying IB I can tell you how lucky we are here to have a very good carrier like them, the staff are very friendly, the planes are well maintained, business seats are fantastic.

I wouldn't jump ship lightly but I could be lured by shiny privileges and point deals. The changes to QFF are certainly not good, especially around the elimination of MASA and such.
I have been giving AA a good look, CX also has some attractive offers, but my top runner up is BA!

I have a lot to learn, lots of good advise in this forum.

...........

but my top runner up is BA!

.

Welcome Claudius. FWIW I've reviewed the same options and came up with the same answer.....

You have personal circumstances that make BA even more compelling compared to an Oz based flyer like me.

Welcome aboard Claudius much to learn here and no doubt contribute to.

There actually isn't one planned at the moment, which is unusual for the social capital of AFF. No doubt there will be soon.

Edit: I lied. Hadn't seen the new thread: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....d-social-events/august-mel-yum-cha-62005.html
