Hi there, my name's Mike and just thought I'd introduce myself.

Currently based in Perth but not for long - in about a month my wife and I will be heading off for a 12 month circumnavigation of South America.

In planning for the trip I've learned a lot from this site, thank you so much for the well organised content and member contributions. Now is the time for me to stop lurking, as I've got some specific questions now that I need help with! Be prepared for queries re travel finances, logistics and, of course, status and upgrades ;)

Looking forward to some good discussions

Cheers, Mike

Welcome to AFF Whipster.

What are your travel plans for your upcoming trip?
And are you going to post an on-going trip report?

Thanks! Broadly, commencing in Rio de Janeiro, then a counterclockwise loop around northern South America - Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador. Then quick trip west to/from the Galapagos. Continuing south through Peru and Chile/Argentina with a fairly lengthy amount of time in the Lakes District and Patagonia. Then Antarctica briefly, some more time in Patagonia, and finishing in Santiago.

Flights are QF to/from South America and internally we'll be on Tam/Lan using a OneWorld Visit South America airpass. Stay tuned for lots of questions on seat selection!

I'm unlikely to post a trip report on AFF itself because I already write up travel at my blog sunlitplains.net and via my twitter handle @SunlitPlains (hopefully not breaking any rules with those mentions). To date my travel writing has been exclusively domestic but looking forward to some international action.

As a keen S American traveller, that itinerary sounds really cool, albeit a bit shy on Argentina ;).

I'll be in Colombia in late September. You also may wish to make yourself known to Juddles who is resident in Medellin.

I've done a few TRs on S America (see below) plus this one for Ecuador/Galapagos: Up the Amazon and around the Galapagos. Also plenty of travel there from a bit longer ago when I was tended to take limited numbers of photos and for which I have not done TRs (Lakes District (in Arg), Buenos Aires), Chile (Santiago, Valparaiso), and Macchu Picchu.

Happy to try to answer any questions either in the thread or by PM.

There was also a recent thread on seat selection (for OW Emerald at least) on LAN: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ion/nice-ow-emerald-seat-selection-65136.html

Hi Whipster,

Welcome to AFF. :D

Thanks everyone! JohnM, looking forward to reading your trip reports, I'm sure there are plenty of tips there we will benefit from. I will try not to bug you too much for more info... but no promises ;-)
