Looking forward to giving and receiving lots of valuable information. Trips for this year - have already booked flights BNE-KUL in October on Air Asia for 6 days. So any tips on what to do, see, avoid etc (thanks in advance). The second trip we are looking into is Hong Kong with side trips to Macau and China - still keeping my eyes open for a good deal flighs only or flights + accom.

Where have we been - 2007/08 Europe via Japan both ways. A week in UK, drive up to Edinburgh and back to London - NYE at the EYE and Big Ben. Then 8000k's thru Europe in a camper (family of 5) and a few days in Tokyo on the return.

2009/10 - USA. Long Beach, cruise to Ensenada, a week in California, Xmas day to NYC, bus trip to Washington, Hershy's, Niagra Falls back to NYC. NYE Time Square. Then camper from New Jersey to LA. Flew with V Australia and Virgin America. We had a ball.

Welcome Maestro. Five in a camper for 8000 kms would have been a challenge! Where did you hire from & where did you cover?

Van Hire Germany

We hired from a place called MacRent in Frankfurt - which is a looong way from the airport. Caught a cab to the rental place, collected van and then drove back to the airport to pickup the family.

We drove Frankfurt - thru Germany to Holland (I have relo's there) Medumblik, Amsterdam, Tilburg - Belgium - France, Paris - Spain, San Sebastian, Zargota, Barcelona - France, San Tropez, Nice, Monarco - Italy, Pisa, Rome Firenze (Florence), Venice - Switzerland (put the van on a train thru the mountains) drove over Simplon Pass, Geneva - Germany, Heidleburg (very nice place) then back to Frankfurt.

KLIA - since you arrive at the low cost terminal you can;t catch their brilliant airport train (clean, air-conditioned and quick) so you will probably go by cab (prepaid taxi counters in the arrival hall, you pay a fixed rate, get a piece of paper and hand it to the person outside the terminal that will put you into one of the cabs. Try to avoid catching a bus - dirty, may take ages as what their drives seem to do is to stop randomly midway on the side of the road and pick up other people going to town as long as there is a bit or room inside the bus and they can make a bit of money on the side

in the city - the bird park is a must-see, what a great place, make sure you go and see mouse deer, so cute. Easy to get to and out of by catching a hop-on/off sightseeing bus

if you want to visit Petronas Towers - either get up early as by 8 am there aren't any tickets left (only a fixed amount of tickets available a day, some funny random number like 1460 or something like it) or ask a receptionist if they can send someone to get tickets for you - I paid 30 ringgits to a porter (about 10 bucks) and had the tickets delivered to my room

KL is a vibrant city, lots to do and see, shopping is fantastic, make sure you go to a fish spa - lots of fun (there's a good one inside Berjaya Times Square shopping mall)

Welcome to AFF Maestro!

Sounds like you had a great time around Europe and USA in a campervan.
