I have searched this forum and QF site, but no definitive answer. I have an award F tix in a couple of months SYD-LAX, and just found out I have a friend on the same flight in Y.

The QF website states "First customer and 1 guest can access lounge on day of departure when travelling on a QF or BA flight number".

I am probably answering my own question because I am travelling F (albeit and award ticket), so am I able to guest a friend into the FLounge. No doubt someone could answer with a yes or no for this one.

Same flight = yes.

Being an award ticket makes no difference to lounge access. Even an op-up to F bring the same lounge access entitlements as a paid F fare.

Since BA was alluded to by the OP ..When it comes to BA, when BA does an involuntary upgrade, they do not normally provide the benefits such as lounge access and pre-flight dining to the passenger upgraded

I do not expect that BA would be involved for a SYD-LAX flight.

+1

The OP was quoting the QF website, I don't think they actually mentioned it themselves, I am pretty sure that there a no BA flight numbers on SYD-LAX routes because what's the point:confused:

Same flight = yes.
Actually, that is only true for Qantas Frequent Flyer (WP) status based access.

With Class of Service based access to the First Class lounge, the First Class customer and Guest simply need to be travelling on a QF or BA flight number.

In this case it's moot as the friend is on the same flight.

To reprise access rules for Qantas International First Class Lounges:
  • Qantas International First Class
    • First customer and 1 guest can access lounge on day of departure when travelling on a QF or BA flight number.
  • Qantas Frequent Flyer - Platinum
    • Member and 1 guest can access the lounge when travelling on a Qantas, Jetstar or oneworld flight.# Guest must be travelling with member.
  • oneworld Airlines Member (Qantas lounge access) - Emerald
    • Member and 1 guest can access lounge on day of departure of a oneworld flight.#

# next onward flight that day must be on a oneworld Airline Members operated and marketed flight.Note: a oneworld marketed flight refers to a flight with a oneworld flight number, eg QF1 or AA222. A oneworld operated flight refers to the actual aircraft or 'metal' on which you fly, eg Finnair aircraft.
Interestingly, these may have changed recently, as they now indicate a Passenger Travelling first class on a flight number other than QF or BA may not get access to a Qantas First lounge under these rules. (Being also oneworld Emerald would override this). This could contradict the oneworld web site:
Customers flying First or Business Class have access to the equivalent class of lounge regardless of their frequent flyer status. (First Class passengers may be accompanied by one guest travelling on a flight operated and marketed by a oneworld airline).
