I am looking at booking flights HNL-xLAX-SFO (trying to maximise VA SC's). The flight LAX-SFO is on VX metal with HA number. Does anyone know if this will earn VA SC's?

you will earn no points or SC on a HA flight number operated by VX.

You will need to book the VX flight number to earn

Evening, all.

Why won't HA-ticketed flights earn SCs?

Maybe I'm missing something, but the Terms and Conditions here don't seem to prohibit SC earn at all:

The way I read it, as long as your fare class is on this list, you'll earn.

https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/Info/StatusEarnFareClass/index.htm

(Whether you’d need to be on the HA list or the VX list I’m not sure. I assume the HA list. Their lists are not the same, and there’s only some overlap in some cabin lists. And oddly there’s no full fare HA economy fare classes — but there are plenty of discounted classes.)
Kind regards,

SBD

See the following page: Points Earn with Airline Partners | Velocity Frequent Flyer

When travelling on eligible Hawaiian Airlines fares and flights with a Hawaiian Airlines (HA) flight number, you can earn Points on your ticket.

and
Points will not be earned on Reward Seat bookings or on fare classes other than as specified above. You can only earn points on Hawaiian Airlines operated flights.

The contentious line, for points at least, is "You can only earn points on Hawaiian airlines operated flights". SC earn doesn't seem to mention this.

Exactly.

I think it's clear that you can only earn points on HA-ticketed and HA-flown flights (with a ticket in a fare class on the list).

HA-ticketed VX-flown? You only get SCs.

According to the Terms and Conditions.

SBD

Might confirm this before booking with VFF. Points would be minimal on this leg, but SC's would be 40.

Reasonably safe bet that if you don't earn points, you don't earn SCs either. You might be able to argue the point when the flight doesn't credit, but I wouldn't want to be relying on that.

The only codeshare flights that appear to credit anything to VFF are VA codes on other metal and DL codes on Delta Connection flights.

VFF has clarified that no SC's are earned in this scenario for the same reason points are not earned.
