Interesting experience tonight at DRW... at check-in, handed a piece of paper that said "for this flight, we are testing a catastrophic computer failure. Therefore we will be doing manual check-in."

So was handed a hand-written boarding pass, with a small blue sticker on it to indicate which seat I was in.

I will make sure to hold onto this in case points don't post.

Was this a system wide test? Anyone else fliying tonight?

I have heard of these tests occuring around the place. in recent times, and I imagine it is something they do from time to time

In the past, I have only had a handwritten BP when the system did indeed fall over in a heap.

If it really was catastrophic would they even know who was meant to fly? Would it be itineraries out and let's see who is who?

And how do they determine who sits where, after all can't have a WP sitting in row 49 in the middle can we? :p

I got a hand written boarding pass last year, and got a real one on the next flight. Not surprising on the same day. Signature says it all.

I did some flying in the 80s from PER-Port Hedland/Karatha and those types of places. Check in at Port Hedland/Karatha etc was via boarding pass with a sticker with the seat number on it. Basically the check in people had a plan of the plane seats though the seats were stickers. Every time they issued a boarding pass they removed a sticker from the master plan. This way they couldn't get muddled!!

That is exactly how it worked.. a small blue sticker with my seat number on it..
