Typically misleading tabloid headline. Points were worth ~£3,000, nowhere near £280,000.

It is misleading. There were 850,000 points accumulated which would have come about thru spend of £280,000.

I'm surprised that the 850k points would have bought just c. £3,000 of goods in-store.
