Thanks markis10, have yo actally flown rex and/or qantas link? if you so what are the pros and cons of each airline?
Thanks again

I don't think REX actually has proper food service at all? I've only ever been given a cookie and a lolley. Pretty much what you would get on Qantas at a non-meal-time but no drink.

I'd be getting on Qantaslink after 4pm for the free booze! :D

Have not flown REX, I fly QF link almost weekly and I like the bigger Dash 8s, I would not be choosing either on food, but would choose QF Link personally.

I would not be choosing either on food

I agree! Especially after the awful savory scrolls QantasLink was serving last year. The smell was terrible. <shudder>

REX served Sesame Snaps, water, tea/coffee and a Mentos on the am flights I took last year.

One REX 'quirk' is that the pilots stand at the bottom of the aircraft stairs and welcome you on board.

Dose any one know if the Qantas Link dash 8 or the REX Saab 340 is quieter????? and i have also heard that the dash 8's dont have proper meals aparently minature is this true?????
Thanks Again

I fly Rex almost every week, and I also fly Qlink regularly,Rex uses Saabs that are getting a bit long in the tooth and Qlink uses Dash 8's and have ordered new Q400's which are supposed to be quieter and more comfortable,as regards catering both airlines are pretty much the same,on morning flights from ABX to MEL which I take regularly they serve coffee and biscuits which is similar to what Qlink gives you on mid morning and afternoon flights.
If Qlink operated the ABX to MEL route I would probably fly with them instead of Rex but only for the FF points, the Rex FF scheme is currently suspended and has been since late last year, this is due to a "revamp" it was supposed to be relaunched in January but nothing has happened.
Cheers
N'oz

And also do Rex's SAAB 340 and Qlinks Dash 8 Q400 Series seats recline? Is the dash 8 more comfortabe then the Saab 340 because its bigger? and again is the Qlink meals miniature like some people say?
Thanks

I flew Orange to Sydney on REX. It was my only option for the route. In saying that, I'll take QF and their Dash 8's any day over the Saab 340:
  • Recline is moot - who cares for such a short flight. Come to think of it, I doubt either has recline.
  • Dash 8s are much quieter, in my opinion. If I have to ride a Saab again I'll probably bring ear plugs.
  • More space in a Dash 8, even if we take the non-next generation Q400s.
  • Food not a big deal - in either one your get a drink and a snack.
  • Not sure how easy it is to overload a Dash 8 based on its pax, but it's pretty damn easy in a Saab. We had a full pax list and pretty much everyone was on weight limit leaving Orange. But that didn't stop REX from telling us the plane was overloaded, and needing to offload the equivalent of 3-5 passengers' allowance in luggage in order to take off.

If you need to fly REX, you gotta fly 'em. If given a choice, well.....

Thanks guys acording to most of you qlink sounds alot more reliable and the dash 8s seem a whole lot nicer than the saab's that rex operate. once again thanks for all your help. Oh and one last question dose any one know what series of dash 8 Qantas Link operate between MEL - MQL. and also are the embraer e jet that virgin australia/ blue operate are they any good or are the dash 8s stiill the best out of the three. thanks again guys you have been heaps of help.

I would have thought the schedule might be a factor, the ejets are great and I would take one over a prop anyday, but its a single flight destination. QF use the Q400.

well rex, virgin australia (blue) and qantas link all have at least one fliight a day so i can build my trip around that and thanks for the answer about wich dash 8 qantas link use. so now my question is that the embraer e jet is that the quietest out of the dash 8 itself and the saab? And another question is, is the premium economy worth it on the embraer e jet run by virgin australia/blue and has any one ever traveled on the embraer e jet and/ or in premium economy on virgin australia/blue.
Thanks heaps!

To reiterate what most other posters are saying.
Choose the timetable that suits you.
Most people would prefer the Virgin jet to the Qantaslink Dash8, with Rex coming last.
The refreshment on any airline will at best be a drink and a biscuit or snack bar.
Doubt if Virgin even offer premium economy to Mildura, but why would you even want to pay extra on a one hour flight.

To the OP - Agree with most posters - Virgin Australia with E170 or E190 probably quietest and fastest but premium seating on VA EJet not worth it for such a short flight. Qantas Dash 8 400Srs are the next best option but it may be possible that older 300Srs may be used (correct me if I am wrong on this guys), Rex Saab 340 slowest and noisiest.

Actual airfares and schedule times may or may not suit the OP. I picked a random day late in the month and best economy one way prices (with baggage) were Virgin Australia $111, Qantaslink $149 and Rex $113 - so unless you think that 1000 QFF points are worth $40 or you like being punished in a Saab 340 that Virgin seem like the best deal.

Speaks for itself:
