Well I have just gotten home from arriving about 2 hours late on QF30. HKG - MEL. I actually checked in for this flight in DEL as I was flying CX to HKG then changing. Now my CX flight was a bit late so I never got to Gate 42 (for that photo! I was at Gate 18 and departing at Gate 16), but instead went to the lounge for the 30 mins to get something to eat.

Anyway I boarded QF30 to discover that outside in the terminal all the computers had crashed and everyone had to be checked in manually. A very time consuming task as there was a SYD flight as well.

The CSM relayed to us what was happening at regular intervals, the pilot was apologising for the cabin temperature as they couldn't keep it cool down the back of the plane. They crew were constantly travelling around handing out water etc and the AVOD was also turned on.

I was impressed about the way it was handled by the staff. The CSM apologised for the entire flight, however I don't think anyone was angry as we were kept in the loop all the way.

A note will be sent to QF from me about the staff on that flight.

On a side note, when the hell are we going to get rid of the "extra" LAG check? Seems it is only AUS, US and CAN still doing it. What a waste of time (and no DF shopping in HKG!

I'm not sure its actually necessary anymore; certainly no LAG check to OZ ex USA, Japan & NZ.

Even with flights to USA, it's back to a xx_X situation where passengers are 'randomly' selected by the airline (xx_X or similar is printed upon your BP).

There was a big sign at the boarding gate at HKG stating it (plus it is noted in the CX magazine). I wonder if SIN has the same thing?

I would have gone if I arrived down that end, but I was short of time, but as it turned out I probably could have easily done it! It's a long way from Gate 16 to Gate 42!

Easy enough to get there with the train, but a long walk back!
