Have I lost my "confirmed" upgrade on a domestic flight?

Good morning all, just wondering if anyone can clarify what might be happening.

A while ago I booked an upgradable economy fare for SYD-BNE QF 544 leaving tonight 22 May. I asked for a business upgrade, the points were deducted and I saw the upgrade confirmed on my booking. All good so far.

I was able to advance select seats 3A and 3B. But, like other posters here, when I went in to review the selection, hoping to get closer to the front, I lost my seats and couldn't select them again. I think I accidentally pressed skip or next when I should have just cancelled the request so that I kept 3A and 3B. Then when I was next given the option of selecting seats all I could get were two seats not together, either 3A and 3D or 2D and 3D at a later time. I can get over the loss of selected seats but I won't be happy if I've lost the upgrade.

I've already tried to call QFF but they didn't really give me much assistance. The agent did not say the cabin was full but as a NB she probably isn't going to tell me much anyway. I assumed they had blocked out rows 1 and 2 for higher status passengers or people that had paid for J seats.

Now I can't do online checkin and get ER100 please check in later or at the airport. But when I log on to make a paid J booking for the same flight I can get 2 seats. So that makes me think there are plenty of J seats. But I would like to be able to print my boarding pass before I get to the airport. I only chose such a late flight because I was upgrading and because we were going to have dinner on the flight. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.

Can someone tell me how full the cabin is and what seats are really available? I think my lack of status and the upgradable fare type must be preventing me from seeing what's truly available.

This is the seat map I see for QF 544 today. I'm Platinum.

What travel class is your booking showing?

There is no 3B so that might be a problem

I can't see two seats next to each other on this flight unfortunately. Maybe try again at the airport.

Thanks all for your advice. I ended up calling customer service again and this time was put through to an agent who provided "service" instead of "attitude." I was reassured the booking was still in business but after speaking with another area nothing could be done about seat allocation until I got to the airport.

When I checked in we got 2D and 3D. I spoke to the lounge dragon about changing it and didn't get a very helpful answer. I also got a bit of a serve when I asked about wireless internet. We'll see if anyone wants to lose a window seat so we can sit together but if not we should cope.

And yes it wasn't 3A and 3B but 3A and 3C. :)

That's odd... Qantas ground staff are so well known for their helpful and friendly attitude

Indeed, the bartender was very obliging, the lounge dragon really lived up to her name.

In the end it all worked out ok, there were only 8 people in business so we were able to organise a seat together. It was annoying though that this option was not presented to me when selecting seats as clearly there were more seats available than it was showing on my seat selection. And surely this option would have been known 2 hours before the flight when i attended the airport as it appeared that noone was allocated to 2F which was the seat next to me.

Still, as NB i should be grateful that I was even allowed to book a business upgrade.
