Hawaiian Airlines and Virgin Australia expand codeshare agreement

australianaviation.com.au said:
Virgin Australia will add its VA airline code on Hawaiian Airlines’ Brisbane-Honolulu nonstop flight as part of an expanded partnership between the two carriers.

The codeshare on Brisbane-Honolulu will be effective April 17 and adds to Virgin Australia’s existing codeshare on the US carrier’s Sydney-Honolulu service, Hawaiian said on Monday.

Hopefully this might now mean lounge access for those VA members on this route too!

Is the J service and product any good on HA?
Wife is keen to head there and looking at a few different options such as QF and FJ aswell so interested in people’s thoughts

Not bad news, now if they can just get the VA codeshare prices within reason...

HA J hard product is not flagship-level, but it is good. Same seats as FJ. EDIT: Not the same as FJ, sorry. Plenty of reviews out there, but if you are travelling with a partner, I'd say it is quite good (as the main downside is the seats are in pairs).

Service was solid, and island-themed, a good way to start a holiday. I'd definitely be happy to fly HA in J again.

Some days there is no between HA and VA but others it's $1000 plus. I guess it comes down to VA's availability on HA flights (they're probably not being given enough of the cheaper fare buckets by HA).

They don't have same seat... FJ use the angle flat Weber 7811 seat (same as SQ's A330's and the previous seat on VA's A330's) whilst HA have their own custom lie flat seat.

Great news, now just wish they would expand their Air Canada codeshare to include the direct YVR flights. Don't want to fly to Canada via the US!

Cheers. Sorry about that, I haven't actually flown FJ but was told they were the same as HA. My mistake.

Having just done AKL-HNL and HNL-SYD in HA A330 J, keep your expectations in check. It's by no means a top tier carrier, and the hard/soft product aren't up to spec compared to many of the Asian based carriers you may be used to.

The seat is narrow (currently on a QF A330 SYD-MEL and it feels huge in comparison), and the iPads they use as IFE have a shockingly shallow selection of options, particularly if you are there and back in a couple of weeks which most would be.. bring your own. The 2x2x2 is unique in the sense that technically you can access the aisle from the window seats, but the iPad stand of your partner gets in the way, and is not easy to maneuver around without disturbing them.

With that said, we both managed ok sleep on AKL-HNL after a full day in AKL, but the timing of HNL-SYD is awful. I'm not sure if it's just that journey that's terrible as it's a day flight, but it's a full day flight with the blinds closed (why??), and it feels like a loooong flight to stay awake for to ensure you can sleep upon arriving home in Aus. Particularly with the poor IFE on the iPads.

Food? Pass. IMHO barely above Y standard, just served nicer.

Service? Polite for the most part, but nowhere to be seen for 95% of the flight.

Verdict? Would not fly again if we could avoid, even if it meant more FF points to redeem and do a stopover in Japan on the way flying JL.
