I will be flying economy to Honolulu mid June from Brisbane, Iam Velocity Gold, Will I get access to the Air New Zealand Lounge?, and does Hawaiian credit points/SC to Velocity? and does it matter which airline I make the booking with. I had an issue with Qantas last month flying to PNG Iam a Qantas Club member and on Air Niugini/Qantas code share, but as it was booked thru Air Niugini, there was no lounge access allowed in Brisbane? Have read a couple of posts on Hawaiian Business class, any comments about upgrade?

Do you mean flying BNE-SYD-HNL? Or are you looking at a direct flight?

I believe that the only codeshares are via SYD, and that would give you access to the NZ lounge

No access at BNE if you are flying direct as the Hawaiian flights are only sold as their own tickets.

But trust me, I do NOT know this for sure - the Virgin site makes the QF site feel wonderful

HA do fly direct from BNE to HNL, but according to the Virgin website, lounge access is only available for the Air NZ lounge in Sydney. Access is also available to the Delta lounge in HNL for the return, but not Brisbane for some reason.

I believe that you may also have to book under the VA codeshare (i.e. book through the Virgin Australia website) in order to get lounge access.

HA now uses the QF lounge in BNE (unless this has changed again in the past couple of weeks). You would certainly get access if flying in J on HA, but as a Velocity Gold travelling on HA code, there is no access.

The good news is that you will get Velocity credit for the HA flights, but you will probably need to lodge a retrospective claim with Velocity after your return.

Thanks, juddles, Mattg and John for the info, being a Qantas Club member and booking with HA direct would that allow club entry in BNE?

Unfortunately not - Qantas Club membership only gets you into the lounge if you're flying Qantas or Jetstar.

As a Velocity Gold in economy, in HNL you get access to the Delta lounge on a HA ticket (assuming nothing has changed in the last year) - i.e., don't need to be on a codeshare. As I understand it, the reason for no NZ lounge access in BNE is that it's closed for the late evening departure (I think that flight used leave earlier in the day, during the lounge's opening hours). And sadly the deal with QF for business class doesn't seem to extend to economy (unlike say EY at PER).

Points and SCs came through for some flights but not all, had to claim retrospectively. I also had inter-island flights booked on a separate ticket, for which I couldn't find a way to add a Velocity number, nor did the kiosks offer the option at check-in.

Thanks clarkkent, as Iam only overnight in Honolulu, and getting a United flight out at about 7am to Marshall Islands, what options would I have at Honolulu prior to boarding? being a Qantas club member and VA Gold. Will be returning to Honolulu about 5/6 weeks later and back to BNE, if I can get SCs for the flight over for my VA account thats fine as will keep Gold (Annual expire August 2nd) so maybe book the return with a QA partner? to get Gold (Annual Expire Dec 31st)?

Just on this point, I had the same problem with being unable to add my Velocity number to an inter-island HA booking last year. Couldn't do it online, nor through the check-in kiosk. When I went to the service counter, the lady was however able to add it to my booking... after I spent several minutes educating her on what Virgin Australia and Velocity actually are, and her having to call over a supervisor to show her what to do. So, it can be done, but it requires patience!

FWIW, the points and SCs did actually post properly - first time that's happened for me when flying a VA partner airline.

I don't think that VA Gold would get you into any lounges when flying out of HNL on UA, unfortunately. Though you may be able to use a Priority Pass/pay-per-use lounge.

As far as I can tell from the VA website, the BNE-HNL flight would earn you 30 SCs in discount economy. (The SYD-HNL flight, being slightly longer, earns 40). If that gets you over the line to Gold, then you could also fly Qantas (HNL-SYD-BNE) or Jetstar (HNL-BNE direct) on the return and earn some SCs that way. Up to you, really. As a QF Club member you'll get access to the QF lounge in HNL flying either QF or JQ.

Any QP access for PX must be booked as a QF marketed flight ie under the QF codeshare number. A booking made as PX4 or PX6 won't cut it unless you're travelling in J in which case PX give you lounge access due to your class of service.

No. The only time you can use the QF Lounge at BNE International is when travelling in J on HA.

We had that problem before and it could possibly be that HA still have VA listed as DJ. You have to do it with an HA person as the only ffn number you can enter or the HA website or airport kiosks is an HA one. When we travelled a couple of months ago we didn't bother trying to enter or VA ffns for the short OGG/HNL flight as the checked bag fee is only USD15.00 pp if you have your HA ffn in the system vs USD25.00 if you credited to another ff program.

The United Lounge is closer to the UA departure gates eg gate 9. If you don't have priority pass you could always try to match your QF SG to a Star Alliance carrier eg TK, A3 etc which would give you *A lounge access worldwide as long as you were flying a *A airline. Checkout www.statusmatcher.com for some inspiration.

I have flown HA from SYD - HNL with inter island flights twice in the past 2 years. I can't remember the booking class but both times I only got SC for the outbound and 1 leg of the inter island, the return inter island and return to SYD didn't earn SC.

I would check the class before booking, if the return leg doesn't earn SC than return on QA.

Cheers

Thanks Ozbeachb & Ribbo, will do some more research, sounds like HA & VA systems are not that integrated
