Heathrow Baggage issues

In August, I am arriving at Heathrow on QF1 from Bangkok (Terminal 4) at 0700, then flying to Zurich with BA from Terminal 5 at 0940.

I understand that I can book my baggage all the way through to Zurich and transfer to terminal 5 without going landside. But with all the baggage problems at Heathrow, I was wondering if anyone thought it better to clear customs at terminal 4, then transfer to terminal 5 with baggage (which sounds like a huge hassle after travelling for 24 hours) and recheck in. I've been pretty lucky so far and never lost a bag.

I was just wondering if anyone has had any trouble with their bags in this kind of scenario. I've heard a lot of horror stories, so maybe I'm just being paranoid.

We flew into terminal 5 in May from Hongkong at 5.30am and needed to transfer to terminal 4 for a flight to Tel Aviv...Terminal 5 was empty and we cleared security met the transfer bus and were in the lounge 15 minutes after landing...Our luggage which was transferred in Sydney,Hongkong and London was waiting for us in Tel Aviv...Great job Qantas and BA so you should have little to worry about...Good luck

Dont these transfers a few times, 2hrs 40 mins should be fine. i would think you would have no issues with either yourself or your bags making the connecting flights.

Good question from my point of view. I will be doing something similar in August, arriving from SIN into T4 at LHR at 0525on a QF flight then transfer to T5 for BA flight to AMS at 0840. The responses have been helpful. Thanks guys!

MCT T4 to T5 is 2 hours.

Just make sure any baggage is checked all the through. Otherwise you will need to clear immigration, collect you bags and proceed landside through customs.

You will then need to head to bus-bay 7 and catch a bus to T5. (Note this is more efficient T4-T5 than using the train if landside).

It is too much hassle to collect your bags, clear customs and recheck in. I would recommend checking your bags all the way through, and transfer from T4 to T5 landside. Just have travel insurance, and carry all your essentials in your carry on. It took me 1 hour 20 minutes to do the T4 - T5 transfer in April 08, and the bags made the transfer OK.
