Hello everyone,

I signed up for an account ages ago but never actually posted as I always felt like more of an aspirational frequent flyer, but now that I have some significant travel planned for 2016 I thought I'd start (attempting) to contribute to the community here. (I'm also clinging to vague aspirations of going from NB to PS on QF this year—yes, I've been doing my reading!) Although I tend to only fly a few times per year, I hope to be able to share some useful knowledge here and there.

I'm also something of an avgeek (although I've had to put it to the side while I attempt to write a Master's thesis), so I'm looking forward to discussing the many facets of air travel with all of you.

Welcome aboard!

You're certainly in the right place to make the most of your travel. As a fellow avgeek I suggest you check out the "Ask a Pilot" thread and the Aviation Photos thread if you haven't already.

And hope we see you along at the next MEL gathering.

Welcome. I too am trying to post more here :)

In terms of your aspirations, about 3 years ago when I started in my new job I spent ages reading through trip reports and Flyertalk wondering how I could get from NB to SG or even P. All it took was a lot of time in Y, moving my credit cards to earn QF points, and luckily scoring international travel with my role. The dream of making it to business class after all those years in Y finally happened when I had enough points, and now I'm hoping to hit platinum this year. You can do it!

Thanks all for the very warm welcome!

Thank you, I've been reading trip reports and FT for ages now (although I often read them more when I have imminent travel plans) and have always been envious of the status flyers. Granted, I've already been spoiled by a few international J/F experiences thanks to some rather fortuitous circumstances but hopefully I'll be able to join the ranks soon enough. And hopefully not long after I've wrapped up this whole being a student thing, too!
