Hi all. Alex here.

I've been a point collector for quite some time, having over 400k QFF points currently. Have only used them for an award flight coming up the following weekend to Brisbane (if anyone is in Brisbane would love to know what to do, going solo).

I'm looking to do more travelling in the next 12 months. Short Aussie trips and hopefully 2 international trips. Looking to save on flights and know where the best deals are for flying and learn more travelling/flying.

Good to have you aboard @ApeLex . Spent 18 years in the Hunter Valley early in my career but now over 30 years in QLD.
As for Brisvegas it does depend what your interests are. there are a lot of things to do as well as perfect weather at the moment.

I have signed up for a day kayak. Also going to check out a couple of things from the Brisbane festival. Keeping the nights open to check out some nice bars and might hit the clubs

Welcome to AFF

Felons at Howard Smith's Wharves is good for a drink with a view in the arvo. That's usually where we take visitors.

Sweet Relief is on tomorrow, part of the Bris Festival (are you coming this weekend, or next?)

The best clubs are in the Valley still ... I will ask the teenagers for some names for you.

If you like live music The Triffid may have something good on.

I think Lightscape is still on in the Botanics too

I was going to go to the wharf saturday arvo to watch the sunset and the bridge lit up. Hopefully sit on the riverside with a drink in hand.

I will be there from 22nd-25th so missing this weekend haha.

Thanks for the suggestions should be a fun time

Welcome from a fellow Novocastrian! I keep seeing more and more people from Newy pop up - seems everyone wants to leave Newcastle (me included).

Are you flying NTL-BNE? Hopefully you got an E190 rather than the Dash-8s.

Would highly recommend asking questions everywhere you can - someone usually has the answers - and reading an article or two that piques your interest.

And another welcome from a former Novocastrian. Left in 1967 to see the world-accomplished!

Thanks! Newy aint that bad. Guess I'm used to it though.

Yes flying that route. I have just had a look its Dash-8 up and the E190 return. What are the differences?

Another welcome on board to AFF (Airlines).
You mention you have a lot of QFF points, good in a way, but there has to be a major change from the new CEO, if you aim to use points for CR (classic rewards) to fly QFi or partner airlines, (internationally).
On a lot of routes, as soon as seats are released by QF, they can be taken up fast by upper grade QFF members.
On Aust QFd flights, if there are seats in U (upgrade) class seating with QF, you can use your points to get them.
QFF status not as important, but...
On QFi flights, your QFF status is very important, depending on where you want to go, and how far.
QFF over time, has put a lot of emphasis on its higher grade FF members, they get the HBA call centre, but if you have gained points from non flying activities, on ground, and not PC (points club), you will have to deal with QF's outsourced call center in JNB, or MNL, also in SUV.
Some might be good at their jobs, other will always say no, can't be done.
If you see us say HUACA, it means you "should" hang up on that call to QF/QFF, and call again, hoping to get a more knowledgeable call agent.
Planning for the trip, looking at how many points, reading up on QFF, is all part of the wow factor.
Since 1997, when I joined QFF, the QFF lights have dimmed a lot, called "enhancements"!
But we call them downgrades.

The Dash-8 is a turboprop - it's smaller, slower and noisier - https://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/qantaslink-dash-8-review/ - watch out for the small overhead bins as well.

The E-190 is a smaller jet, and IMO is probably the most comfortable narrowbody in Australia (maybe not when the A220s come in) - it's quite modern, and the seats have good legroom/width. https://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/qantas-embraer-e190/
