Hi All,

I have a strange 2013/14 coming up where I'll be spending a fortnight in Sydney then a fortnight in Melbourne...and back again on rotation, all year.

I've always wanted a qantas club membership so as soon as this situation came through with work, I started research and came across this website. Has already been interesting reading so far. I've just signed up for gold AFF membership and am hoping to speak with admin about arranging QC Corporate membership through here (work won't pay). I've had to laugh at myself at the embarrassing level of excitement I've been feeling at the thought of just sitting in some other part of the airport to enjoy free food/beer. I'm sure it will wear off after 2 flights and I'll become bitter and tired and start yelling at the empty food trays. If that happens, I hope they kick me out.

Until then, cheers :)

Nick.

Welcome to AFF

you are right, the romance soon wears off. I recently did 14-16 months of weekly MEL/SYD commute. Theres a few bonuses with it:

1. You get to know all the staff at the lounge (J lounge in my case)
2. You learn fast to travel with carry on only
3. You wonder if you wrists are on steroi_s ( )

:D

Have fun!

Welcome Ncik

Here's a few suggestions to get you started.

Do you already have any points or status with QFF? Once you get to Gold, access to QP (*pub, that is) is included.

Will you be flying on Red e-Deals or Saver/Flexis? The latter earn more SCs straight up.

Until you get QP access, check out the Monthly flight posting logs and see if anyone is offering their guesting spots when you're around the same time.

Get a good Amex card (I suggest either Earth or NAB platinum cards - YMMV) and the WOW MC for earning max QFF pts. If you can afford it, don't be afraid to sign up for CCs just to get the start up points bonus!

Once you get some points under your belt, learn about JASAs, and go and get some Status. Pray to the Double Status Credits Offer gods also...

Oh, and btw, if you feel like a kid in the candy store now buzzing on sweet sugar, wait till you become an addict on the hard core crack that is Frequent Flying!
