I stumbled on the forum yesterday whilst looking for a new credit card, and it is like a treasure chest in here. I had no idea about ASAs and have been just using the classic award to book all my flights.

I'm still trying to understand all the jargon but i'm very excited. Nice to meet you all and i'm sure i will learn a lot from this magical place :D

ps. just a question about JASA, i need to go on website to book a dummy flight (using classic award?) and find out if the fare bucket is the right type in order to book a JASA? I'm still very new to all of this so please forgive the stupid questions.

Nice to meet you all!!

Thank you for the replies, see a few regulars whose post i keep seeing throughout all the threads :)

Hi espiritu360,

Welcome to AFF.

Look here for the answer to your ASA question.

ASA change summary & How to Book them

Welcome espiritu360,it sounds like you have a better handle on the jargon already than I have. Your name doesn't have anything to do with Espiritu Santo by any chance? Did some great wreck diving there some 30 years ago.

Your travel style can really change if you put some reading time into AFF. Just remember the first million frequent flyer points are the hardest.
With the ATO thread you may be wondering whether you should use an Amex card or a Visa / MasterCard and that will be a personal choice that depends on how soon you want to enjoy flights in the higher classes of seating.
Welcome to AFF.

Hi Prozac!! I've seen lots of your posts throughout the forum; i'm sure i have much to learn from you :) Nice to meet you!

Hello cove, AFF has already taught me that you can pay the ATO through credit card. That was a massive palm-to-face moment. I thought i was clever having a woolworths qantas credit card, but the last two days on this forum has confirmed that i know little, if anything at all about maximising points. I have followed your blog and am thinking of getting the Citi select card for normal use and WWQCC for ATO.

Mate, I am still bumping around the lower half of the barrel. Cream floats, you will soon realise there are lots of very clever AFF'ers from whom you will learn alot. I sometimes scratch my head and wonder exactly what they are talking about. I am a babe in the woods when it comes to booking. Top it off someone last night mentioned cheap stays at Hilton and that threw me because I haven't even started on hotels yet.

You don't sound like a newbie to me. Have you slept since stumbling across this forum yesterday? Are you one of those speed reading photographic memory people :D

Welcome and enjoy.

Last two days has just been pouring through as much posts trying to figure out the ideal credit card combination to capitalize on ATO and household expenses. Special thanks to cove and kpf who helped me out with that. Next step, apply for the cards, use them and stand outside to wait for the points to shower on me.

Yes i totally agree, when i'm reading the posts, i need that abbreviation guide opened on the other screen to understand half of what is being said. I'm haven't even started to look at hotels yet, there's so much knowledge on this forum it's going to take me a long time to get through even a fraction of it. I'm like a fat kid in an ice cream store, i use to think QFF was the king of the hill. I was wrong. So very very wrong.

You have already done what many do not do...to read and to seek to understand. Well done.

If just a few days you will have learnt enough to radically change how you earn and burn points.

The next lesson is to act when opportunity presents.

I'm like a fat kid in an ice cream store, i use to think QFF was the king of the hill. I was wrong. So very very wrong.

Yes QFF is the generally last place I put points to. However it all depends on the earn and burn, and for some earn it still makes sense to put the points to QFF, as either earn ratio is better, or they can only go to QFF (ie Everyday rewards).

For many of us, it makes sense to acquire points in several program as that allows one the ability to often supercharge your earn...and burn. For example that opens the door to more redemptions, and specials on flight awards, point transfers etc.
