Greetings all,

I am a Gold Scum (I believe that is the terminology!) from Brisneyland.
I'll need 240 SC by 31 Aug to keep Gold and am keen to do it b/c I have a few OS trips coming up next year and access to lounges is nice.
Besides my business is flexible and the need to seek out new contracts can take me almost anywhere...

So I was wondering if anyone had suggestions please?

Maybe Bris to Perth and back via Adelaide (or somewhere) and do it all in Business?? I'm open to all suggestions!

Thanks in advance,

Welcome aboard Tolstoy. As noted above it helps to specify the program you want to attain status in so that specific fights can be advised. Also, some overseas flights on QFi/J* can offer good returns.

Thanks indeed to aaron, JohnK, Hvr and Tom for the greetings.

Have updated my profile and made it clear that it is QFF that I'm trying to outwit! Also trying to read the abbreviations link/posting and get into the new jargon (but until I'm sure I'm using it properly, I'll stick to English!)

One f/u question please: Could I buy an economy ticket and use points to upgrade to business and still get the full quota of SCs or do they award them at a reduced rate if you do that??

BTW: I realised that I'd forgotten to factor in a couple of scheduled flights in July and Aug so I'll actually only be short 200, not 240 SC, by late Aug.

Thanks again!

Tolstoy.

No to that. Your SC's will be at the rate your original ticket was issued.

Thanks GPH. I've been doing more reading and gather that an effective strategy is to book the J seat but then use Points + Pay to actually pay for it.
Would you agree?
I have over 500,000 points so seems like a good idea to a newbie!

cheers,
T.

I'm pretty sure that the general opinion is that Points + Pay is a poor use of points.

and finding an upgrade is not easy anyway.

Good points and status can be had going across the ditch in J (NZ), PER is another possibility.

Thanks Tom. When I used the calculator on a few dif J seats, was a bit dejected! The points would essentially vanish in acquiring the J seats that would earn the 200 required SC.

Seems like there really is no easy way to rack up the SC. It simply comes down to BIS and J means you get the SC for less time in the air but obviously greater ticket cost.

I do have to do a couple of OS flights early next year so will certainly rack up the SC then but would prefer not to lose my GS on the 31 Aug deadline.

Cheers,
T

Cheers Limewood. I can concoct a business trip to PER so had a look.

BNE-PER-BNE = 160 points for $3800
If I go thru ADL one way = 210 points for not much more $.

thanks,
T
