Hi

I am relatively new to all this point hunting and status searching. But so far I have enjoyed the small luxuries and benefits it has brought me. Like some points upgrades to business on domestic flights.

I am on track to obtain Gold Skywards by December this year and will achieve Silver QFF next week, still deciding whether I justify the extra flight before the end of August for Gold QFF.

Does anyone know of any perks of Skywards Gold which can be used in Australia (not for flying, but for discounted rates on services/ exclusive access etc)

I have an AMEX direct earn card for QFF that has been quite helpful in accruing points over the last month or so and have applied for a Diner club card to get me access to some lounges on the next few trips (Tunisia (via Dubai) and the Maldives (via Singapore and Sri Lanka)).

I have a trip to Christchurch in Business with Emirates in a couple of weeks that will unlock Silver Skywards and allow me to sample the goods at the Sydney Emirates lounge and third party lounge in Christchurch. If anyone will be in the Sydney international terminal lounge on 1 June at about 8am it would be nice to meet up with a fellow board member.

I have started aligning my purchases with obtaining points and have found there aren't many restaurants in Canberra (where I live) which participant in the frequent flyer points program, and a couple are painful to get the points from ("broken machine" or uninformed staff). I have booked some accommodation based on the points offered, plus the rate was good.

Any other Canberrans on here who know of any good location specific ways to get points aside from the restaurants?

Hi Welcome to AFF

Def go for Gold with your QFF membership if you have the opportunity to. Silver doesn't give you much, but Gold does open the doors a bit more often!

In respect to Skywards...there are ways to earn and redeem with hotel chains around Australia which you may find helpful, as well as car rental.

Hope you find the boards a wealth of info

Welcome to AFF Perk!

On the Diners card. I'm vacillating myself. I originally got interested because of the lounges, but Priority Pass with one of the discounts floating about in the web is about 70 bucks or so and has a few more lounges (mind though, one still has to pay for entry). Which Diners are you going with? The $135 + 77 = $212 one or the $389 one paired with a Mastercard?

I'm going for the travel card paired with Qantas frequent flyer, annual fee of $95, plus $50 for any additional card holders. Then they can also use the lounges for free. It's listed under the earning points section of the Qantas page. It seemed the best value.

Do you know if the lounge entries are actually free? Its not clear to me reading the lounge access Diners page. Strange wording which implies there _may_ be a charge and that one is expected to check with the card issuer for details (Diners Australia???).

The lounge access is free for cardholders, guests can enter for the additional fee. I have confirmed this with the diners club customer service.
