Hi, Gavin here from Brisbane. Interested especially in travel insurance (why is it so expensive in Australia?), frequent flyer tips and buying return tickets to Australia rather than from Australia.

Welcome to AFF gavink61!

Travel insurance can be expensive if going to the USA but outside of the USA I find the frequent traveller annual insurance quite good at ~AUD170/year. It also provides cover for rental insurance excess domestically.

Thanks John - but can you be more specific - who is this annual insurance with? eg the allianz frequent traveller policy is $428/year

One thing I did not notice was the premium is up to 49 years of age. There is a significant increase with each year after that.

I can purchase 2 more annual policies before I need to worry though....
