Im planning on booking 2x flights to Europe later next year. I currently have 188,000 Qantas FF points (bronze) and require 256,000 points

I can sign up for the citi rewards platinum card ($250 + $90 supplementary) for 20,000 points and free travel insurance.

Spend over the next 6 months averages $4k a month so $24,000.

I currently have a citibank card with a 0.5% cash back.

Should I switch cards? Is there a better credit card you can recommend. Am I wasting my time and should just pay for one of the flights :confused::confused:

Any advice much appreciated!!

Quando Quando,

Welcome to AFF.

Several important questions for you here.

Do either of the people travelling have QF status of any sort or are you both bronze :?:
Have you looked on the web site to see availability at the time you want to travel :?:
Have you considered purchasing QF points to top up what you need :?:

On top of that you may need to deal with QF FF on the phone to get the best availability (CX etc) so may need an extra 2500 points each.

The best regular card for points growth is something that gives you 1.5 points per $ spend or at least 1.25 points per $ spend. These are the Platinum Amex and the QFF Platinum Amex. I'm not sure but possibly 1 or 2 others.

Westpac Earth Qantas Card has a special at the moment. No Annual Fee for 1st year plus a 10,000 bonus points (payable on 30 April 2010) after you use the card at least 3 times (e.g. 3 x shopping at Coles or Woolworth). Not a little bad earner if you just after quick easy points.

That should give you 10,000 points... so now you just need to find antoher 58,000 points somewhere else. Good luck. (oh, please publish other credit deals... I don't mind sign up other card with no 1st year fee, get the points and cancel...)

I recevied this info from Qantas' notification mail telling me about the FF points condition...

Just a quick info. I am in the same boat as you do. I want to redeem 2 x F MEL-SIN return next year. I need a total of 360,000 points. So far, I have 250,000 with my wife 40,000. I still need 70,000.

How I am doing to get that 70,000 is:
1. Get my family - my parents (mum + dad), my wife and myself onto Westpac Earth Card Deal. That should net me 40,000 points by 30 April.
2. After the points arrived into their respective QF account, the cards will be cancelled.

If all goes well, I should only have about another 20,000 to 30,000 to accure... again... anyone with credit card deals that gives bonus points upon signing and no annaul fee??

Westpac Earth 10,000 Qantas FF Promo: Use EAAFZ in the online application form.

If I were you- I'd start a big spend on a Qantas AMEX card, getting 1.5 points per dollar.

I'm guessing you're after a J class to Europe return for 256K?

Do you have any family members that can loan you the points via Qantas family transfer?

Do you shop at Woolworths?

If you spend $200 p/w on groceries over 6 months you'll get about 5000 points

Well both of you sign up for the Westpac Earth card.no fees for a year and both will get 10000 bonus points if used 3 times. So now you are down to 19000 points. For the code search for the thread here re 10000 bonus points.
Have you got an Everyday rewards card from woollies.if not both of you sign up,then link to your frequent flyer account before Christmas and each get 250 bonus points.A few quick spends at woollies, buy your wine at Dan Murphys before christmas and you should rack up another couple of thousand points.
nearly there.

I'd go for that card if I were you..

You get a free domestic flight thrown in a year- maybe worth 250- and then 30,000 points.

I value points at .03c each. So you're looking at $900 worth of points and a $250 flight ($1150 total value) all for 450 a year. (plus you get 1.5 points per dollar spent)

Have you checked availability?

Unless you're a Platinum frequent flyer, your chances of getting 2 x F seats on the same flight for MEL-SIN return are buckleys.

Is this promo and the terms posted or featured anywhere on the net....? not on their homepage....

No, it is not on the web. It was posted to me in a mail along side with a nice letter from Qantas telling me the new T&C of QFF Points sytem.

Edit: Sorry, I didn't read LevelNine's post. On my brochure, there was no web address. LevelNine: Thanks for the weblink.
