Help needed SC run over Anzac Day weekend from Melbourne

Having just made Gold I thought I might have a go at reaching WP before October 31st..going to need 550 sc's though and not sure if achievable or worthwhile. Have quite a lot of points to burn but also want to do a OWE award in J in 2014 and thought the WP status would assist when booking that ...have spent most of the day looking at options from Melbourne and think I have confused myself even more. The one the does come up for 200 Sc's 25/4 Mel/Syd/Auckland and return Auckland/Mel for 107,000 points inclusive or 72,000 min points + cash ...I would prefer to leave on Thursday 24th and come back Monday 29th ...if anyone has any advice I would be grateful ...I doubt that the 550 sc's would be achievable in a weekend like that but would give it a go, if not will look at a couple of long weekends
travel up to October.

You haven't mentioned double SC , so assuming not, and you haven't said how many points you are willing to burn, or how many overnights.

For 148,000 points (plus cash), the following is availalbe over that "long weekend" as a JASA.

25/4 13:00 MEL-SYD-BNE (QF434, QF532), arrive 16:35. Overnight in BNE
26/4 06:00 BNE-MEL-PER-KTA (QF605, QF473, QF916) arrive 16:40. Overnight in KTA
27/4 08:15 KTA-PER-MEL-BNE (QF907, QF802, QF634) arive 21:15. Overnight in BNE
28/4 10:00 BNE-MEL (QF615) arrive 12:25

Total earn is 540 SC - so only 10 short. Unfortunately there is no JASA connect showing back on the Sunday.

If instead, you change to

29/4 07:45 BNE-SYD-MEL (QF507, QF423) arrive 11:35

then you hit 560 SC - which meets your need.

Thanks so much Equus. Was just searching for more when your mail came in. No double sc for me unfortunately. I do have the points to burn and can leave on Anzac Day and come back on the Monday so will check this out and see what the cash portion is. I doubt that I would achieve gold again in 2013 -2014 so my thought was get to WP and then soft land back to gold when my year is up in Oct 2014 I appreciate you taking the time

I hate to do this and sorry to ask more questions I am such a twit at this but on the Qantas site now and being fairly new do I just book each segment as one way as do not seem to be able to book
26/4 06:00 BNE-MEL-PER-KTA (QF605, QF473, QF916) arrive 16:40. Overnight in KTA so is it BNE to PER and then PER to KTA as separate bookings ?

Also when trying to adjust the points down to your quoted 148,000 did you choose the middle range on the scale as I am trying to work on the cash component..if I used all points it would be 218 383 and would like to get it down to about 15000 points max...

With a membership month ending Oct 31, it might be worth waiting to see if you get a double SC offer in the last three months, they have been going around!

Thats a mass market one, individual offers often pop up in the last 90 days.

Thanks Markis...just did the figures on the above trip and comes out at about $1500 + 168,000 points, have the points but the cash might be too much, will wait and hope that the Q gods look down favourably on me. Equus..thx too for your input I am learning as I go along

To get the points down, don't try a single multi-city. You need to do 2 "point to point" that happen to offer connections.

The example given should be tried as two return bookings. BNE-KTA return as one booming nested inside a separate MEL-BNE return.

That will get the points down - won't help much with the $ though.
