I'm a real newbie, so would welcome and be very greatful for some expert advice. I need to get to CGK from Australia (preferably BNE or SYD) is there a strategic and optimal airline to choose to link with this to maximise points and hopefully propel us to some status? We used to have Star Alliance Gold but only due to my husbands work and incredibly frequent flying on his part, I still kick myself that we lost this and didn't know how to continue at the time....On a side note we have Business class flights from NAN to LAX return next month with Fiji Airlines ...would these be helpful in an overall status plan, or am I barking up the wrong tree? Thanks in advance for tolerance, patience and and advice.. I hope to get there one day. Lydia

Welcome to AFF!

I've flown on QF between BNE and CGK via SYD for around $2.5k return in business class. This earned me a total of 320 status credits or 640 with a double status credit promotion (you've just missed one) which helped with maintaining my status.

FJ is a QF partner so you should join QF Frequent Flyer if you haven't already and add your membership number to your booking.

Thank you so much, we are then flying Etihad via AUH to FCO, in business class.. what would you suggest to optimise this part? Cheers Lydia

Garuda will get you SYD-CGK in very comfortable accommodation. They credit to Etihad's FF program. Along with your Etihad flight. You'd need to have a look at Etihad's program to see if it was worthwhile for you. Etihad doesn't belong to an FF alliance, but they do have a wide range of partner airlines including American and Oman Air... making their program quite attractive to collect and pool points from some very good quality airlines - and often airlines with excellent fares. (I paid around USD500 to fly Manila to Europe last year on Oman Air business class, crediting to Etihad. Which I then used to redeem an AUD700 American Airlines flight in the USA).
