I have a friend who is heading overseas with his wife on an LONE5. Neither of them have any status. I told him to pay for a Qantas Club membership for one of them and then use that to guest the other into QF, BA and AA lounges on their trip through South America, the US, the UK, Europe and Japan.

But...he's having trouble understanding the lounge access rules on QF's web site and, to be honest, after reading the rules on the site I'm not entirely sure myself.

It looks as though his Qantas Club membership will get him into Qantas Clubs (eg LHR T3) and also Admirals Clubs and BA Terraces lounges but what about JAL and LAN lounges? Somewhere on the QF site the figure of 250 lounges is quoted in association with Qantas Club membership but is that true? Have I given him good advice or am I missing something important?

With QP membership they have access to QP’s when flying QF, Admirals Clubs when flying AA and BA Terraces/whatever they’re rebranding them to lounges when flying BA. There is no agreement with LAN or JAL so there is no lounge access if you fly with them.

In some places it says 250, others only about 130, that confuses me too.

Not quite true.

Access to QF or BA lounges is available when flying with either QF or BA.

AC access is available only when on an AA marketed and operated flight. (Unless a joint QF/AA lounge)

There is no lounge access in Paris  (just wanted you to be clear on that)

i think perhaps they refer to 230 Qantas (and associated) lounges, being all QF, BA and AA lounges coughulatively. But 230 is a huge number, i agree. Doubtful, really.

Sounds right to me. Consider Sydney. There are 5 Qantas lounges that a OW Emerald has access to.
A Qantas Club member has access to 3.

Brisbane adds another 4 OW lounges, but only 2 for Qantas Club.

Heathrow has around 7 OW lounges, but only 4 are accessible to QC.

That's only 3 airports, and already we are up to 16 OW lounges, and 9 that QC have access to.
