Hi everyone - 1st time at this so hoping someone can help me!

We're trying to fly to the UK for a wedding at start of January 09 and have hit the problem of there being no freq flyer flights available around this time!! Can anyone suggest a way of getting round this...called quantas but they just said to keep calling back and checking.

I seem to remember something about using points for a round the world ticket - anyone know how many points needed for this??

Hope someone out there has experience of doing this. Thanks, any help is very much appreciated

welcome to AFF jonnymagic3 (I wonder whatever happened to jonnymagic1 and jonnymagic2 ;))

Just to give you an overview - Qantas (no U) release frequent flyer seats 353 days in advance of travel - which means they tend to get snapped up pretty quickly. You can try and be more flexible with dates or try a round the world.

Also the online tool doesnt show Cathay Pacific flights - so it might be worth a call to Qantas to see what other options you might have.

When speaking to Qantas FF via the phone, ask specifically for them to check some different routing options (including using Cathay Pacific) such as via NRT (Tokyo), BOM (Mumbai) and various European gateways such as CDG (Paris), FRA (Frankfurt), HEL (Helsinki) etc rather than the usual SIN, BKK or HKG routings to the UK. Some of these options may not appear on their standard searches.

However, you have left it quite late to be booking for a peak leisure travel period on a very popular route for FF awards.

A Oneworld RTW award requires 142,500 QFF points (including 2,500 QFF points for assisted booking fee) per person for economy travel. You can travel up to 35,000 miles include up to 5 stopovers and 16 sectors.

Hope someone out there has experience of doing this. Thanks, any help is very much appreciated
A Oneworld RTW award is not that difficult to book but availability could be limited at the time you want to travel.

The best suggestion would be to keep calling Qantas incase availability appears and as mentioned previously you may not be able to get award availability to the UK but somewhere close and then purchase a cheap ticket to the UK from there.
