Hello! I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me get the tail number for this Qantas flight I did back in 2011. Here are the details (Time format is Year-Month-Date and times are local):

2011-08-07 QF0025 MEL-AKL 0600-1140 737-400

This flight was definitely a 737-400. The itinerary states so, and I have a couple of photos onboard this flight and have been able to confirm that it was indeed a 737-400.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

It could either be ZK-JTP or ZK-JTQ.

At that time, only Jetconnect was operating Qantas Boeing 737-400 flights on trans-Tasman routes. There were four Jetconnect 737-400s:

ZK-JTS
ZK-JTQ
ZK-JTP
ZK-JTR

JTS was returned to Qantas (mainline) in January 2011 and JTR was removed from passenger service in March 2011.

I can't work out exactly when JTP ceased service with Qantas, but it began flying for another airline in November 2011.

JTQ was flying for Jetconnect until the end of August 2011, and re-appeared a few times over the following months on trans-Tasman routes when QF was short of an aircraft. So I suspect it was ZK-JTQ.

This page from the Qantas Source website also has an interesting comment posted on 25 August 2011:

JetConnect B737-400 ZK-JTQ Withdrawn.

Aug 25, 2011

JetConnect Boeing 737-476 ZK-JTQ was withdrawn from service today after operating QF134 Auckland – Melbourne. This was the final JetConnect Boeing 737-400 service.

Although, JTP was still flying at least in early August 2011, according to this forum.

Someone else with access to ACARS logs may be able to confirm.

@Mattg I think we need to call you Rainman! (I mean this in a nice way of course!)

Thanks for the help!

According to Aussie Airliners, ZK-JTP's last revenue service was on 3 Octobe

Yeah, I can't rule out either ZK-JTP or ZK-JTQ. Both were probably in service for Jetconnect at the time of your flight.

You'll need someone who can access the ACARS logs or has access to historical flight radar info somehow to be able to get the exact registration.

I have a QF pdf timetable for 03 Oct 2011
QF25 was MEL-AKL-LAX
MEL-AKL 06:00 - 11:40
AKL-LAX 14:05 - 06:30
At times took QF025 to AKL when was a B747 but if left at MEL 11:30 in earlier years.
In those times upgrades were from all tickets and less QF points than now. Used to upgrade to the B747 bus class

At times a A330 AKL-LAX with the same QF025 flight number, but B737 MEL-AKL. AKL-LAX ended ~May 2012.
QF25 not listed in May 2013 QF pdf timetable

Great news!

I have contacted Melbourne Airport, and they reckon the tail number was ZK-JTQ

Thanks all for your input, it has been really useful!

Wow! I never knew you could request that kind of info from an airport and that they would (a) still have the information, and (b) be able to share it with you.

I'm also happy to learn that my guess was correct :)
