my question is: HOW do i book an exit seat ONLY on the 2nd and 3rd sectors of my 4 sector return trip to europe? it FORCES me to select a $20 regular seat or an exit seat before it allows me to select one for the sector I ACTUALLY WANT. I don't want to pay $20 for a regular seat that I would be allocated for free anyway! cash cow rip off!

do I need to call them to do this? I dont want to pay a 'call centre fee' either. again, RIP OFF!

i am referring to a Qantas booking as per this topic title.

You will probably need to call them. Your seating requirements aren't totally straight forward and it doesn't surprise me that the online booking engine is giving you unexpected results for your specific situation.

The seat selection tool has just been revamped, so I doubt they have all the use cases covered at this point.

If I was you I'd call and ask. If, a) they try to charge you a call centre fee, and b) you don't want to pay it; well you could always just try your luck with purchasing exit row seats when you check in at the airport instead.
