Good morning everyone. I have been reading the very helpful threads about finding best fares to USA and Hawaii, and at the risk of being boring I am asking for help on a trip I am planning for May 2011.

Looking to go from Brisbane to Vancouver, then returning via a stopover in Honolulu. I have around 270,000 Qantas points available - but dont mind if I use another airline because I have another trip in the early stages of planning that can use those points anyway.

On the outleg I am trying to get directly into YVR without having to go through LAX or anywhere else in the USA because of the delays and the fact that I dont want to stopover on the way to YVR. From what I have looked at the difficult part is getting to HNL on the return leg.

I have found an Air NZ routing that goes BNE-AKL-YVR then YVR-HNL-AKL-BNE for around AUD 2500 return. Other options seem to involve using say AirNZ via AKL, or AirCanada via SYD for the out leg and a combination of say WestJet for the YVR -HNL leg and Jetstar or Hawaiian via Sydney to get home to BNE. But the costs of those seperate one way bookings comes out to more than the AirNZ fare anyway.

Can anyone suggest other possible routings or combinations ??

Also I noticed this comment in the thread on USA fares:

Firstly you are way too early to find the best fares on the AA sites. I would venture about 3 months out would be the time to begin to look - especially since April / May is before the peak travel periods.

that suggests to wait until early next year to make the bookings, because there might be better fares ???

Thanks in advance for your help.
