The QF website does not show surcharges associated with awards unless you have sufficient points when you do a dummy booking:(. Thinking of redeeming an award flight to Barcelona (from Sydney) next year in Y. It takes 128000 QF points Syd-Bcn return but as I don't (yet) have this amount, it won't show the surcharges.

In comparison, the SQ website shows (even if I don't currently have sufficient KF miles) that it will only cost 80750 KF miles but a whopping $689.12 in surcharges:evil::shock:

Would anyone who has 128000 points (or more) in their QF account be kind enough to do a dummy booking for a QF classic award, and tell me how much surcharges does QF charge for Syd-Bcn retun in addition to the 128000 points? Thanks in advance!

PS I expect to be receiving some Amex MR points soon:rolleyes: that I could T/F either to QF or SQ, and as both T/F at 1:1, the SQ option is looking much more attractive at the moment:shock:

If you fly QF to London and BA to BCN , then the taxes should come out as $603.94 and the flight cost would be 128,000 points

Thanks Dave & others who replied. So QF's surcharges are just under $100 less than SQ, but require 48K more Amex pts....looks like SQ has the better deal here...

For international itineraries the
ppplus.bmp
should conceptually be the same for revenue travel as for award.

So a 'dummy' international multi-segment booking for the same flights should return what you are after.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Just tried this serfty and the surcharges came to $607.04 which is very similar to the $603.94 quoted by Dave above....so thanks for the tip:p.

Apart from a significantly less AMEX pts needed, SQ has a direct flight from Sin to Bcn (albeit with a 1 hr stop in Mxp), and I can fly the A380 to Sin from Syd and then the new 777-300ER to Bcn, SQ is looking good (even in Y:rolleyes:) once the Amex pts finally appear:(.
