hi all
I was looking for some help, moreover advice from those who've experienced J & PE travel on these or similar flights. some may recall that from this thread I was able to score some classic J & PE awards seats to be released. http://www.australianfrequentflyer....lassic-award-seats-wp-53138-3.html#post887825

This will be all of our first international flight above Y , so we are pretty excited, and to score it on points even better!

We got J BNE-LAX and return PE DFW-BNE. I looked at seatguru.com and from what I can tell the plane is a 747-400GE (744) though not sure how to confirm that.

As there is three of us, I though the three in the middle for J class made sense, but the CSR suggested otherwise and put us in 7A,B,D. I was thinking upper deck would be nicer with 2 on one side and adolescent in aisle. She said that the distance between the two aisle seats could be a problem.- how wide are these aisles?

Also a question about access to the aisle for those next to you if you are sitting in the Aisle seat. If one of us are on the adjacent aisle and different passenger in the seat next to aisle ( either window or middle seat), is there enough room for them to get out without the person moving in the aisle seat?

On the return flight they put us in 39ABD. assuming I'm looking at the right aircraft version on seat guru, it shows that 39A has a misaligned window and may not recline fully. Not sure how misaligned this may be? ie is there something to look at out at all? I've heard that some PE aircraft actually have J class seats, how do find out if that is the case?

appreciate any advice from the many gurus here!

cheers

On the BNE-LAX leg, this will most likely be a reconfigured 747 with MII skybeds. If there is an option to sit upstairs, then, as this is your first overseas J trip, I'd jump on that. Maybe you could even try to score the exit rows which will alleviate the problem of the window occupant having to do gymnastics to get over the skybed. If not, why not try for 5A or 5K (single seats) for the youngster and you and the Mrs sit in 6A/B or 6J/K behind? If you want to PM the dates, I can look on E/F to confirm the config and the availability of those seats.

On the DFW leg, I have only done this once. I'd say try and snag the 2 on the side and aisle behind or next to in the middle. Bulkhead would be best to ensure least disturbance.

possible a stupid question, but I will ask it anyway. row 5 is showing as an exit on the QF seat selection. We wanted to see if we caoudl get the middle seats , rather than the actual exit row seats themselves so the one behind the bulkhead in the middle 3 together. it disables those seats when I choose for my son. I understand why for an exit row, but I'm just querying of the middle seats are really considered exit row seats. I called and QF told me yes, but she was rather unconvincing so thought I'd get a second opinion from here.

Hi doczim,
seatguru, expertflyer and the QF seat map pdfs all have those middle seats as exit row. It's on the internet, so it must be true :). I did DFW-BNE once on QF's $999 launch special and had PE exit row both ways on a Y ticket. QF have refurbed the B747s since so 36J & K in PE are no longer exit row. I think the refurbs are all complete now so the chances of getting J seating is remote. I also scored that bonus once in 2009. Finally, I believe the 747GE configuration is correct as it corresponds to what expertflyer shows too, and I don't think any other config has a row 39 in PE.

I've travelled in 5B previously and it is a great seat. The middle seats are not considered exit row seats and I did see children sitting there. However, if someone in the party is a child or otherwise not suitable to sit in the exit row then nobody in the same party will be allowed to sit there.

Thanks BenSQ380 and HVR. ended up selecting Upper deck for J BNE-LAX and for DFW-BNE in PE row 36 middle seats so will have the bulkhead which seems a good outcome.

ok need some more help. IBNE - LAX is squared away upper deck. I was able to get LAX-SYD on A380 in J, so want some advice on seats for three. Was thinking 13 but then seat guru shows its close to galley and toilets, but I saw a video on Youtube Qantas A380 Business Class Sydney to LA - YouTube and there seemed to be a total separation so not sure if that's an issue. Video i a bit old so not sure of they cabins have changed since then.

currently got row 17. Any other suggestions? thanks

I always aim for 13 on the A380 (and flit between window and centre aisle depending on my mood when I'm selecting seats). I've never noticed more noise there than in other rows.

Thanks for your comment. I like the idea of the mini cabin but was worried about proximity to toilets ands galleys

We've already had the conversations about being able to fly Y again!

Did you take all the family? we went to US in 2010 in Y on points and now burned through the rest of my points. It's definitely a big treat for us.
