Hello

I was doing a quick check to see if Hertz offered anything to match Thrifty's metro car (they don't) and I came across this baffling offer.

Hertz Best Price Guarantee

Can some one explain it to me?

If I find a better price elsewhere and book it, I can then call Hertz and get them to change my booking to the cheaper rate and then go back and cancel my cheaper booking.

Does this not seem a complete waste of my time? Especially when I can cancel my hertz.com booking in about 5 clicks of a mouse. What advantage is there to having my booking on hertz.com?

A dummy booking on Qantas.com shows that they are cheaper for a car at Sydney airport (but still miles away from the thrifty $40 deal).

I guess for Hertz if you find a booking engine that beats their online price then it will be better for them to sell to you at that price rather than have an agent sell to you at that price - they receive the rental net of fees to the agent.
