Hi there,

according to the Hertz Australia website, early returns incur a $30 charge:

"if returning earlier than booked by 24 hours a $30.00 (excl taxes) Early Return Fee is applicable"

Now I have a case where it is much cheaper to rent for another day (rent 10 days and get 2 free).
My rental is 8.5 days (=9 days charged). Can I just extend it to say 9.3 days (=10 days) and get two days free without incurring the $30 fee (returning 16h early)?

Just a bit curious if anyone has an experience with the early return fee actually being charged.
I will probably change my reservation anyways since it would save me a lot more than $30.

thanks!

My rentals are mainly 24 hours but I have hired a car at say 7:00pm and returned car back at 5:00am many times without issue. Next week I have a 5:00am flight so will return car back before they open which I have done before without issue.

I haven't been charged, but I did say I was returning the vehicle because I didn't like it.

I just realised that they will probably recalculate the rental agreement on the actual return date, so reserving for 10 days and renting only 9 will most likely not work. I will probably still try just to see what happens - If I get hit with an early return fee I will dispute it based on the +24h in the T&Cs.

I have returned cars 12 - 16 hours earlier, rather than paying extra to park it a hotel for the night.
No problems.

Here is my result: Booked a Car for 10 days to take advantage of the free days. Returned after 8.5 days and was charged 7 days (9 days charged, then 2 days discounted). Probably a mistake on their part but worked out even cheaper than I anticipated.
