I am flying into Paris and need to be in Berlin seven days later, before returning to Paris two days after I give my talk in Berlin to fly to Iceland. Initially Mrs Grubbidok and I were initially planning to hire a car from CDG and return it before our Iceland flight (~$184 for the 10 days). The one way fees now turn that into at least a $600 rental for 6 days.

I've come across the Hertz European transfer desk, which shows cars that need to be repatriated (and apparently removes the one way fee): HERTZ Transferdesk

Does anyone have experience using this?

Yep, the one way fees are a killer.

We tried Florence --> Nice and it was EUR300.

One way Florence --> Venimiglia was EUR50 (ie. stayed within Italy).

We took the train for EUR29.
