Hired a car from BNE domestic on Friday night. Got into the car and at the boom gate while she's checking the car I notice the fuel gauge not quite full. It was a Kia Rio.
Went back into the office and they apologised and gave me another car. Same make and model. Checked the fuel gauge and it looks full but something not quite right. I did notice the estimate kms on down to empty was 520km. Didn't take a photo. The next morning fuel gauge was 7/8ths and by the time I took it back yesterday evening it was 3/4 full. I had done ~98km. These cars should run ~15-16km/litre. I had filled up at BNE airport and first click was 8.55 litres. Way too much. Down to empty estimate was showing 558km. Way more than previous evening.
Took keys inside and explained the situation. The guy couldn't be more helpful and apologetic. It was a cheap rental and he tried to get me a discount which didn't work. He apologised and took the time to write a comment on the rental.
I picked up another car. Huyandai I40. No small cars available so upgraded to Sedan. This time I took a photo of the dashboard. Down to empty estimate is 621km.
This time I had done ~108km. These cars do around 12kms/litre. Took car back an hour ago and again filled at BNE airport. This time at the first click it took ~10.84 litres of fuel. Down to empty estimate was 641km. Again I had to put in more fuel than necessary.
Took keys inside and explained the situation. She couldn't be any less interested. She says "Write a letter." Hahaha. I try to explain again and again she shows no interest. She says "We give you 15km grace to fill up the car." I said "I got nothing. In fact I have made up the short fall for the previous customer." She just did not care. Poor customer service.
It's not a lot of money in fact I don't care about the money. It's the principal. If you give a customer 15km grace then surely you ensure car is full again before the next customer. No?
Am I being unreasonable? I will put the above into email and send to Hertz. Not that they care but it will make me feel better.
