I dropped off a Hertz car around 7 days ago. I handed the keys and rental agreement to a staffer.

I still havn't seen a credit card charge, nor receipt turn up on the Hertz website like all of my other rentals.

I don't mind *not* paying for a rental (may make up slightly for a *huge* argument I'm currently having with Hertz ... more on that in another post when that gets resolved or I feel like I can post it without prejudice), but I still think it's unusual.

I know that if they claimed I damaged the car I should have had the excess taken from my card, so I don't think that's the issue.

Anyone seen similar?

I've normally found Hertz to be fairly quick and reliable. (Unlike another ripoff company that uses green as their primary colour)

For my last Hertz rental (late October) the CC was billed 3 days after dropoff (and I was watching a little anxiously as there were a few scratches I hadn't noticed at pickup time...certainly no recollection of having put them there myself...anyway no extra charges). Points posted to QFF account 1 week after dropoff.

Then again I had to actively chase up points for a NZ Hertz rental a couple of years ago. They admonished me for not following correct procedures in the first place (I think I did what was necessary in the first place, but maybe not). I got the points eventually.

That's Kiwi's for you :!:

Thanks for the advice.

I spose in the back of my head I have this feeling someone else is perhaps driving around in *my* rental car and it's never been booked back into Hertz properly. Eventually in a few weeks time I'll either receive a speeding ticket or letter of demand to return the car!

BTW. How do others handle a situation where the Hertz place doesn't give you a receipt when returning the car? (Either after hours drop or the place is too busy?)

Just ue the CC statement as a fallback. Works for my company which is huge and has controls on everything :!:

I rent off Hertz quite a lot and drop off to quite a few locations where they don't or can't give you a receipt at the time (eg DRW, LPL, NCE, etc, etc).

Haven't had a problem before now, but I am quite paranoid and take digital photos of the car before and after rental (can be an interesting experience in DRW in the rainy season). I am always ready to take legal action against Hertz, if they want to try and rip me off (needless to say I am #1 Club Gold). Haven't had to so far, but I am quite prepared.

I am also having a little run-in with Hertz at the moment. Quite stupidly I made a "pre-paid" reservation (I urge everyone never to do this, based on my own bad experiences) for a UK location. Well, as it always happens, I had to change my travel plans and so contacted Hertz to change my pre-paid reservation. I rang Dublin a few times (the staff there are really quite wonderful, not an Indian amongst them) and got an agent who changed my reservation and told me I would get a refund of the pre-paid amount.

Well, that was a few weeks ago and nada so far.

I'll be ringing Dublin again in the morning (just wonderful to hear that lilt).

:)

Well for the rental posted about here, it strangely turned up on my credit card a bit more than a week later. The strange thing was the CC charge was backdated to the rental drop-off date. But just never showed up.

I've now got a similar rental outstanding. I dropped off a car and Hertz couldn't "clock me off" due to some weird issue. I went and chatted to other staff, and they also couldn't close off my rental, but promised they would and would send me the receipt.

Quite a while later - still no receipt, no information on hertz.com and no credit card charge.

I reckon their new computer system is to blame.

Wonder if I'll ever see the charge for this rental!!! Maybe it will be like another rental where 8 weeks later they send me a letter telling me they forgot to charge me for something.

(oh, and as promised above, I will post about my dispute with hertz. Should be resolved in a few weeks I think!).

Hmmm... they've been using that excuse for a few months now. Haven't they got it all sorted yet?????

I won't argue with you there straitman.

I had a client about a year ago who dropped off his keys for his rental with the green and white company, but their staffer failed to check the car back in, so not only did it sit in the carpark unused for 7 weeks, but they billed him 7 weeks of rental on his card....boy was that a fun one to sort out.
