Hi All,

I'm going to Queenstown next month and just wondering which of the above should I go for? I will only need a corolla sized car with automatic transmission and a child seat for a 22 month old.

I have Hertz #1 GOLD and AVIS Preferred through AMEX Plat Charge.

Also I see that AVIS has an upgrade bonus where if you book 3 or 4 days you get a bonus upgrade. Is it normal when the coupon is applied, it doesn't tell me what the upgraded car will be? I selected corolla automatic and then coupon is added as well but it still says corolla...

I will probably need a GPS but not sure to use the one on the iPhone or spend $10 a day for the one from Hertz/AVIS..

Cheers,
K.

Just price them both up and decide what suits, taking into account CDP and reductions against excess.

If you go there regularly (?) consider adding a map to you GPS here. I have done that in the states.

Be careful of excessive roaming charges, dont let the greedy telco's win!!

you can always call ahead to clarify any queries.

Thanks. I don't think I will roam. Either get a prepaid or free wifi. Are there iphone GPS apps that will work offline so I don't need to use the iPhone data connection ?

And do check the UK prices.Last year when we used avis in NZ the price was cheaper on the Avis UK web site.

If you've got AAA membership in oz, then suggest you can also look at thrifty as they do reciprocal deals. Just look an the thrifty nz site for aaa deals. Found that was the best having NRMA membership for ZQN rentals for me last time.

Thanks but I don't have a NRMA membership.... Maybe I will get one next year when my roadside assistance for my car ends at year end.

If it helps, NRMA membership "member only" without roadside assist is about $25 a year or thereabouts. Also helped me when the car battery went flat. I got NZ AA reciprocal benefits for a jump start inside the town carpark. Saved me about $80 and a whole lot of frustration. Still a bit embarrassing though!
