Been a while since I have used Hertz, now they are charging $2 a day for roadside assistance, what a joke. I thought most cars came with that when new, does this mean Hertz have an unreliable fleet and we pay???

It means Hertz have found a way to scam $2 out of every customer.

Is it compulsory?

So up to 730 per year. Nice scam...

And I bet there are still exclusions where you can be charged for a callout.. eg lost keys or out of fuel.

Never seen it, and it's not showing on my quotes.

Where does it appear?

On the rental agreement.I am going to take it up with them as its not in either the fees and charges area of the terms and conditions or on the quote itemised.

Location surcharges seemed to have crept up as well:

Premium Roadside Assistance Cover is an additional service that customers can add to their rental when picking up a Hertz car at the counter. This service covers encase the car needs to be fixed or towed due to something caused by the customer (flat battery due to leaving headlights on, lost of keys, running out of fuel..etc). Anything that happens to the car mechanical, not caused by the driver the roadside assistance is covered by Hertz.

Hope this explains it a little bit more. :)

Not really, I was not offered such a service and its not featured in the services or terms and conditions yet as a Presidents Circle Member for 5 years, I seemed to be charged for it?

I've never known a gold member to be charged for it automatically, unless they request it.

Have you checked your gold profile?

Hertz seem to find all sorts of new ways to overcharge including not checking vehicles back in properly (a Perth specialty), having an "estimated charge" on a reservation which doesn't include the correct location surcharge and now this. What next an "air in the tyres surcharge"?

Yes, there is no accept/decline option, and given I just walk to the car and drive off, I dont normally check the paperwork!

I only noticed it because once again the Hertz computer wanted to give the points to VA rather than VS, despite VS being the only option in my profile, should be grateful that its not QFF, took a while to get rid of that!

Hertz continue to demonstrate why I no longer use them.....

What next an "air in the tyres surcharge"?

/Hertz finance department planning meeting/

- Returning car on a day ending in 'y' surcharge.
- Surcharge for car to be clean on pickup.
- Drivers Licence viewing surcharge
- Paperwork printing fee
- Office door entry fee
- Boom gate maintenance fee

So many options.....

I've always thought roadside assistance for a rental car is laughable. If they're POS car breaks down it sure shouldn't be my problem!

I used Hertz from a non airport location last week. As there was no Gold Service, I had to go into the office. They tried to "up sell" me to no excess insurance and roadside assistance. I was in a hurry, so just flashed my licence and left. I thought later, what was the Roadside Assistance about... as I assumed if you broke down they would assist without charge.

I searched the Hertz website, found a link under Sitemap...did not work. However a Google search found the page.

Australia & New Zealand 24-hour Roadside Assistance

Some interesting paragraphs. This one is like QF enhancements. " As part of our continuing endeavour to offer customers exceptional service and in the unlikely event that your Hertz vehicle becomes disabled, Hertz operates a Roadside Assistance Program" .. for a FEE! $2 per day.

and "Roadside Assistance will provide service for lockout or an empty fuel.(sic) However, this service will be at the customer’s cost."

I just trawled through the Hertz AU website and could not find the fee mentioned anywhere under Rental Qualifications. And no mention in T&C either (although as commented above, they do charge for running out of fuel and locking keys in car type of calls).

I still haven't managed to get rid of QFF! Thought I had but rental last weekend didn't appear in my Velocity account and checked receipt today - surprise surprise it shows QFF! On top of trying to overcharge me very annoying!

Had a Hertz booking over the weekend. No sign of a $2 roadside assistance fee....

As I can't find it on the website as a fee, I would challenge it being applied to any rental of mine.

Perhaps its only certain depots or certain cdps that get the benefit of this charge.

Who really knows. Has anyone seen it written in the flip over information on the rental desks?

My rental on Friday did not have it in FNQ, and the charge was taken off when I made inquiries about it. Its worth checking your paperwork regardless, although previously I rarely did.
