HHonors anniversary date?

I just assumed that any status level one receives would be valid for at least 12 months.

I got HH gold thanks for the gold offer. It's worked. I've stayed at the Hilton a few times now. However, I only took up the gold offer around July. I notice now when I log in online that it says with my current level, I will be silver in 2013. So the gold benefit has only lasted less than 12 months.

About to book some hotels for Jan/Feb next year. Certainly not going to bother with Hilton and their rip-off internet charges if I'm not gold and getting free wifi.

Can anyone shed any light on what status I really can expect for next year? I know I can call up a OS call centre, but you guys are much more useful/knowledgeable

Perhaps I have just answered my own question. I found the original email I received from Virgin which states

We are pleased to confirm that you have selected to receive a complimentary 12 month membership into the Gold Elite tier of the Hilton HHonors™ program.

Hmm...ok confused again. The physical gold card says it is expires 03/2013.

I *think* it's this: Hilton status is determined on calender years (1st January - 31st December) but once achieved, status is valid for the remainder of the current calender year, all of the next calendar year and until the end March the year after that.

Received the dreaded "enhancement" email from HHonors this morning so Gold is going from 16 Stays/36 nights to 20 stays/40 nights.
No biggie for me as I rarely stay with them but a bummer for Daver6​ getting a complimentary Elite Tier that is then shortchanged by 6 or 3 months.

Methinks the (revised this year) website has a few issues ... my HH card indicates Mar 31, 2014 - but see similar to the OP on the website.

Now, the following is from experience that does not specifically relate to DJ status matches, but may (hopefully) be applicable:

For any year you gain or requalify a status, that status is valid for the remainder of that year, the next and another three months until the end of March two years hence. (e.g. If you go from Gold to Diamond in a September then you have Diamond status for a further 18 months. If you re-qualify Gold in February, that Gold status is valid for another 25 months)
