Hi all, I'm Gumnut,

Firstly, I was very glad to find this forum, so to the admins I send a big thanks.

A little about me. I don't fly. Yeah, I know, so what am I doing here?

I'm here because my hubby has been travelling more and more for work in recent years and I want to help him with his bookings. His travel isn't that onerous or even regular but involves domestic and international trips. He's not the kind to chase points or take up promotions but his work expects him to arrange all his own travel bookings. He does this but doesn't put a lot of time into it as he would rather be concentrating on his work. Having said that he has flown J before and appreciates the perks of J & lounges etc.

Anyway I'm hoping by putting in some effort myself I can make his trips better and also eventually earn us some discounted flights for the family.

I've started by opening QFF accounts for us both and linking our Everyday Rewards cards. We're also due for a new credit card so my next step is getting one or two direct earn cards.

He started flying for work back in 1999 and I'm wishing I'd done all this years ago (I'm sure he'd be platinum by now!) but better late than never.

As for me I suffer from bad motion sickness, but I have actaully made it off the ground a few times to go MEL - SYD but that leaves me a wreck. I know I'll never make it off this rock. That's ok though, it's a damn good rock!

Looking forward to reading my way around the forums.

Welcome, and might considerate of you to do this for hubby. I wish my company would let me (or my wife!) do my own bookings...

Gumnut.. Welcome & don't be afraid to ask questions to help with your bookings..

Hi Gumnut and welcome.
Have you tried any motion sickness medication? If so, post them here and we'll see if there is anything better.

Welcome aboard.
As a chronic sufferer of sea sickness and someone who really does not deal with turbulence well I can empathise.
I carry stemital with me when I fly , to at least reduce the possibility of throwing up. Not nice in a confined space for other pax.
Mrs GPH is a bit of a Guru compared to me when looking at booking flights. She does however boom ahead .
I can suggest though that depending on where Mr Gumnut flies to. A chat with travel Guru can be very enlightening.
I would go so far as to suggest you use his professional services for your biz bookings. .....

welcome to AFF Gumnut. :) as another new member, you will quickly pick up some great travel tips from the folk here...

Thanks for the warm welcome.
I guess what I'm hoping to do is be Dr Gumnut's travel advisor as he actually makes his bookings through Qantas Business Travel. He doesn't have the time or inclination to do the research first so I'm hoping that if I can do that for him and add some little benefits to his trips it will make it that much better for him.

As for my motion sickness it's taken me a while to learn what medications work well for me and I've now tried several (with thanks to a severe case of morning sickness in my last pregnnacy!) so I have that sorted. My dilemma for the time being is that the meds really wipe me out so while our kids are still young (10, 7 & 3) it's hard because I end up needing to be looked after too!! My hope is that as the kids get older and able to manage themselves on a plane then I'll just pop the meds at the start, pass out for several hours and wake up at our destination:idea:

Yes GPH, it's horrible being *that passenger* on a flight. I once had the embarrassing call go out for 'is there a Doctor onboard?'.

Anyway, yesterday I figured out how the online check in works and the seat selection so that's a start. Dr Gumnut has now racked up his first SC's and has only just realised that all the workmates he travels with are at least SG's or higher so his plan is to ride their coattails into the QP until he gets his own SG (which may be as soon as Aug).
