Hi, I moved from US to Brisbane 2 years ago. I used to be a big points accumulator in the US and I am still shocked to see the absymal point accumulations here.

With travel opening up atleast Interstate I am itching to get back to explore places.

I am currently Lifetime gold with marriott and a year away from becoming lifetime platinum but because of the latest move to remove award categories thinking of moving allegiance to Hyatt, not sure yet.

No major bonus categories. The transfer rates of non amex cards to frequent flyer programs is not 1:1, earning cap for high spenders for all non-amex cards.
Things change all the time with these programs, including caps, bonuses and transfer rates. Bonuses are available, but you'll have to churn.

Although it's not as generous as it was 3, 5 or even 10 years ago, I wouldn't use the word 'abysmal'. I've not flown in less than business class in the last 10 years nor paid for a hotel room in 3 years. That's hardly 'abysmal' to me.

You have to spend a lot of money to earn points. Abysmal was with reference to US and I know its not fair to compare 2 different countries but since I just moved from there its hard not to compare

No. Well at least I don't. Churn instead.

Play the game is my advice. You can succeed if you follow the rules.

Churning is a good advise. I have done a lot of that when I was in the US. Since I am still new to AU market my credit score is not that great yet. The credit market seems to be quite reluctant here, I was able to get 2 mortgages but getting a non-amex credit card has been a hair pulling excercise.

Citi rejected me for prestige card.
