High taxes when using Cathay Points?

Has anyone noticed when redeeming Cathay points, the economy flights all cost a relatively low number of points, but have a very high tax to pay, around 3 times higher than other frequent flyer redemptions to the same destinations? Why do people want to earn Cathay points when this happens, or am I missing something?

Yep, can't wait for Cathay to return to pre-Covid levels of J class award availability on on partners like Alaska, Aadvantage, BA, even Qantas.

About the same copayment on QFF. €259 carrier surcharge and €108 in actual taxes….
