From the same "reasonably" reliable source who advised 3 DT's for Tassie, I'm told POM is slated for a Hilton. Let's see (but I'd be ecstatic if Airways moved to the Hilton stable).

Well there you go.......and I was thinking this rumour was more likely to be wishful thinking than fact. I hadn't even caught wiff of it but in any case I'm happy as the IHGs probably need a bit of a shake up, although it is POM so I'm not convinced that will necessarliy occur.

Speaking to a friend in construction in POM, he tells me the project is at a standstill or moving very slowly. He didn't know why though.

Had a perfect view of the Hilton construction for three work days and no one was on site the whole time.

I know why, it's POM! When you read who's involved, it'll be surprising if it's ever finished. Look at how long HIX took and it small in comparison. It's supposed to be finished by end of next year. This is a link to what it is supposed to look like and here's some pix I took in Sept. Has it progressed at all?

Now I do like the Stanley. When I first visited there (just prior to it opening) I was convinced I'd slipped through a worm hole and landed somewhere entirely different to POM. Not sure if I've previously posted the Stanley pix (below), but it's a very nice hotel and has direct access through into Vision City as well.

Yep that's exactly my thoughts when I arrived for the pre opening, once I stepped into the lobby I felt like I was anywhere but POM. Excellent F&B, wonderful rooms, great pool, etc. Would be considered a top hotel in any major city worldwide.

A bit of disquiet happening over the PNG Govt investment in this complex. Personally, I'd be wondering how much of the investment actually gets used for the project!

They do however, claim it will be complete by September 2018. We'll see.

I wish. If we are in the antipodes that source must be now a resident of the anti-antipodes ... or is that actually our antipodes?? Whichever, that source is now working a Hilton many miles from Oz! Sorry.

PF may be a better contact for the source as of now ... possibly a Keltic accent may soon be heard?

Latest update on the POM Hilton project.



It looks like the hotel has a lot of work still needed, but the convention area (to the left of the site) looks like it is well progressed and I'm thinking they may well be concentrating on that part to make it ready for APEC next year.

It has been alleged that it won't go anywhere. I missed an updated in BNE recently but it seems it will go down the same path as the other hotel/casino down the road....

Do you mean that massive vacant building that was condemned before it even opened and is now left sitting like an oversized eyesore??

EDIT: found a link ... this one? If so, I can say that the Hilton site is still a working site. All those cranes were operating last week!
