Just noticed this in an email received for a booking next week, have never come across it before. Is this something new?

Stay A Step Ahead
eCheck-In lets you review your reservation details, view available rooms and their features, and confirm your room number. Then, when you arrive at the hotel, simply stop by the front desk or the self-service kiosk (where available) to pick up your room key.

Here's How
Starting the morning before you plan to arrive (24 hours before check-in time to as little as two hours), sign in to your HHonors account and complete your eCheck-In.

Been around for some time.

FT reports indicate it's often a waste of time.

Sorry I'm new to this, can you please elaborate on why it's a watse of time? is it because it's not accurate?

There are many anecdotes on FT that the room selected does not end up being the room provided.

More to the point, it seems that it can have a derogative affect on elite upgrades.

The Definitive On-Line Check-In Thread

I don't like using it myself because I can never know for sure what sort of room I've been given at check-in. What's more, it doesn't seem to improve time at check-in, so why bother?

Will give it a whirl next time, but dont have my hopes up due to previous posts ^^^ I'm happy as long as I get access to the Executive Lounge :)
