Hi all

I am starting to crank up the planning for my trip to Dubai and Cyprus next year. Currently plan is to fly on QF in J to DXB, stay there for 3 - 4 days, fly to Cyprus (in whY most likely on CX), spend two weeks there at my parent's house then fly back non-stop via DXB. I have a call with QF P1 line to see what they can do about making J awards available to DXB (I will report back on that).

My parents are planning to meet us in DXB. My plan is to use my HHonors points to book two rooms - one with two beds (my parents and our then 4 1/2 year old son) and for the wife an I to have a room to ourselves - built in baby sitters given I am funding their hotel stay :)

So now to the question - does anyone have insights into the "best" Hilton property in Dubai to book for an award. I know "best" is all relative so my criteria are:

- Nice pool - small boy will be in it constantly.
- Near to beach - when not in the pool it would be nice to be near a beach
- Near to a dive centre (I do not expect much insight into this)
- Nice restaurants
- Near to shopping :( for me :) for mrssimongr and mothergr
- points costs is irrelevant - I have about 550K points and only staying 3 - 4 nights

My understanding the available Hilton properties are:

Hilton Dubai Creek
Hilton Jumeirah Residences
Hilton Jumeirah Resort

And being built

Conrad
Hilton Sharjah

The properties are:

hilton dubai creek to hilton jumeirah residences - Google Maps

Just on the basis of the images on the Hilton site and a quick look at locations from the link above the Hilton Jumeirah Resort looks like the place to go.

My knowledge of some places borders on encyclopedic - my knowledge of DXB is absent so any and all insights are welcome.

I stayed at the Ck back in 2006. It was a fine stay.

I'd check the FT HHonors forum for more contemporary advice (although I am thinking Jumeirah may be your better option.)

I stayed at the Jumeirah Resort about this time 2 years ago and liked the stay. Some good restaurants over the road. It's at one end of town but a reasonably short cab ride to the Souk and Creek area.

Hilton Jumeirah Resort would be my recommendation on what you have outlined as your requirements. It is near the beach and one the big shopping centers, Mall of the Emirates and Dubai Mall as well.

I have not stayed there, but did stay at Dubai Creek Hilton in May for 2 weeks, it was for work and close to where I was working. It is a nice hotel and very friendly, but not a lot around it without getting a taxi. But that is most of Dubai from what I saw.

Note also the taxis only take cash, but they are not to expensive, min charge is 10 AED, and Dubai creek to Dubai Mall was about 35 AED from memory.

Thanks all - yeah I think Jumeirah might be the go.

I was tempted to do that so I did a search on the FT for Dubai Hilton and got a lot of threads that weren't useful - last time I asked for advice on a Hilton property in NY I got abused... People here are a lot more tolerant.

Agreed, I got abused once for asking about a Hilton in London. Sorry but I wasn't interested in a 600 post thread dating back to 1998 about Hilton properties...some people on FT are just so rude!!!
Back to topic...heard from many that Jumeirah is fantastic and benefits very good.

Hah! You need a thicker skin- remember it's only the internet.

Some good advice I received for 2006 was that there was a lot of construction going on around Jumeirah at the time and the Ck was better value. This was borne out!

Just a follow up - I was thinking of switching to the residences to try and get a 2 bed apartment - does anyone here know if the residences and resort are connected or a distance apart - they look to be together on the Hilton maps but apart on google maps.
