Not sure if anyone has come across this previously....I'm curious about when I move to HK in a few weeks will the E-channel recognize my work visa instead of issuing a new tourist visa as it has done previously (even multiple times during one day of MRs:cool:).

Or do I need to somehow get the Frequent Visitor database updated with the new visa?

Thanks!

I suspect you need to make a visit to the little office.
I had to do the same when updating APEC cards

Darn that's what I was afraid of, oh well might have to schedule another TPE run in Jan when my anniversary passes.

Is this a new work visa? If son, you will need to get it validated manually by an officer...

Indeed it is, that is good to know I'll have to go easy on the sherries on the legs beforehand :)

The barcode on the back of your passport for use in the e-channel readers is linked to the "qualifying" document you produced when it was issued. This registered qualifying document can be changed quickly and easily at the "registration" booth just after immigration control at HKIA.

So I suggest you enter using your visa at a normal manned desk and then go straight to the "registration" booth and ask to have the qualifying document updated. Should take less than 5 mins if there is no waiting to get to see the officer.

Mine bar code was originally linked to my APEC card. When my APEC card expired I was able to have the qualifying document changed to be my Qantas Gold FF card. It was a quick and simple process and activation was immediate.

If you use your Qantas FF card as the qualifying document, it is valid for the life of your passport and not need to be updated when the APEC card expires. The card, whether APEC or QFF card give the exact same access to e-channel for an Australian passport holder, but the APEC card will only give you 60 days stay while QFF card will give you 90 days stay each visit! So in this case, QFF card can trump the APEC card for use as a qualifying document for HKIA e-channel registration.

I was looking to apply for a HKIA Frequent Visitor card as I qualify but then thought of not doing so given that I too, like the OP, have just got my HK work visa in the last few weeks. My understanding of the process is as follows:

1/ Need to manually validate work visa by a human officer (he will stamp your visa label with the entry date)
2/ Need to go to HK Immigration to make a HKID card (by law people staying more than 180 days need to get one)
3/ Then, once you get a HKID card, you can use the HK resident entry channels which is quick as well, negating the need for HKIA frequent visitor card?

Yes, I see that too from the Automatic Passenger Clearance section:

You can perform self-service immigration clearance at a passenger e-Channel if you are

A non-permanent resident issued with a notification label (using a smart identity card and carrying a valid travel document)

Looks like I won't need the FVC any longer!
